I have been playing and DM withn the same basic core group for over 20 eyars now. but recently my son has picked up the torch as I am just not finding it in me to keep going.
Takes a lot to write and run a good campaign and I just do not have the time

I did find for a while there in the late 80's - mid 90's that dungeon magazine was a great resource for side runs and I used it a lot(unbeknowst to my players) but since they went electronic only they have grown rather stale. Oh well I have rattled on enough Take it easy and don't touch my bone white 20 siders!

Yeah Thel. 10 years ago I could use Dragon Magazine, or even some Pre-Fab'd dungeons just by keeping the Manual for them in my binder out of sight. But these days... everyone knows every single scenario because they read them online before I even get to them. People just want my campaigns, but they don't really get how much work they are!

I havent DMd in awhile, but I did for almost 20 years straight. Ive never been a PC actually, always the DM...
I find it far easier to just lay out the world then wing the details. Ill note take only after the idea has been played out. Its convient because all it takes is to make your game or world to linear or tight, and one jack ass player to off the wrong person of whatnot and everything stalls without major DM tweaking, cheating, or the "You cant do that!" gimmicks to stop player free action. By flowing loosely through a game I can keep it completely open to whatever courses i might suddenly decide on, the players know they have freedom of action at all times (even if its to their detriment, which is more fun for me) and im saved years of work from having to write, map and create insanely detailed filler material that may or may not be used. Thats just me and my style though, everyone is different.

I would love to be able to run a 'fly by the seat of my pants' campaign, but my players have come to expect a certain level from me, and get let down if I can't deliver it. And as for the 'may or may not be used' stuff. Yeah... not with these guys. "You walk by a tree" "Can I cut the tree down?" "I wanna climb it!" "If we move the tree, is there a hole under it for a dungeon?" "Quick! Get the mage! Burn down the tree!" o.o I love my gaming group.
