I tried to like the movie trilogy, but having read the story ruined it.
But this always puts a smile on my face and is the best thing about the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Uz1icjwrM

Movie was good, i saw it in imax 3d. Generally im not a huge fan of 3d movies because i think the visuals can take away from the story, im a big proponent of content over flair (obviously, playing 13 year old rpg). Having said that the visuals were so good int his movie that i think everyone should see it in 3d once a least, because it really does look amazing. Making this movie into a trilogy is a bit of a stretch though, the movie kind of drags on for the first hour or so, especially the scenes at rivendell, which completely felt like they were just there to give some added importance to what is essentially just a treasure hunt. Still an enjoyable movie, just not lotr quality, but thats a tall order.
Also i don't remember who was talking about the treatment of the dwarves in lotr, but i completely agree with you. The dwarves in this movie are light hearted at times, but they are still taken seriously, especially thorin, he is a badass.

I went to see The Hobbit this morning and really enjoyed it. I would give it a 9/10. One point short of a ten since they did add some scenes that were not originally in the book. However, being a Tolkien fan, I did enjoy the the extra lore Peter Jackson added in. I believe the extra's have added even more depth to an already great book and did enjoy hearing of the other wizards and seeing Radagast. (What a great character he is!) The movie's length could also be considered long by some, but again, being a Tolkien fan I was so enthralled the movie to me seemed to short. (Maybe these long hours leveling and camping in EQ have dulled my mind =)
Before going to see the film I didn't read anything about it or even watch the trailers. I wanted to save myself from being to "Hyped" up and then spoiling the movie if my expectations were not exceeded. It worked! Like the LoTR series, I walked away feeling that I had started the beginning of a great adventure once again. If you liked the LoTR series and enjoy Tolkiens magical world, I believe you will enjoy The Hobbit immensely!

8/10. I loved it but I thought Radaghast kinda sucked. Also the bird shit streaking down his head just made him seem like a joke. He should have been done differently imo. A sled pulled by rabbits that moved faster than wargs was also kinda dumb. Some childish kid shit but overall really good.
Can't wait for the other 2.

5/10. It was on par with most of the comic book adaptions. Superficial (only thing saving it was the source material), boring and childish (The Hobbit is a children's book as is childlike for that reason but not childish).
The Radagast scenes were horrible. They should've called him Drunky the Wizard instead. It was somewhat enjoyable simply because I love fantasy and Tolkien's books but objectively it simply wasn't a good movie.

SRSLY DONT The goblin king voiceover, the randomness of the troll hoard find, and the wtf-ness of storm giants were really big breakers. Too much humor :| Where's Denethor burning Faramir alive in the hobbit eh? Granted, not as much in the source material especially pre-Murkwood, but still.

SRS DONT ya the rock dudes fighting was pretty random, but then again the dwarves didnt know wtf was going on either so maybe it was supposed to be presented like that.

You did in fact see it in the 48fps version, correct? I heard that they were showing 3 versions, 24fps, 48fps, and 3d48fps, though i could be wrong. I've heard from lots of people/reviewers that the 48fps thing was a mixed bag, at times looking fantastic (particularly during the riddle scene) and at others looking like a soap opera. Anyone else have any specific thoughts on the first major motion picture shot/viewed in 48fps? I will eventually go see the movie myself, but I really am skeptical about the 48fps thing, heard alot of bad things about it.
