I started an Iksar and I hang out in Qeynos. I farmed fangs for a good while and asked a nice druid to Wolf Form me, 100 fangs later and I was indifferent to the guards and amiably to the merchants. My only dilemma is going to be doing the sash/headband quests, I guess i'll have to ask someone to do it for me since I already wasted some items!

Being an Iksar is a struggle at times because I've died more than I'd like to admit but I enjoy the challenge so far!

You will never, ever, regret picking a human.

I ended up going human. I prefer qhills --> blackburrow --> HHP --> HHK to anything in Kunark until at least the early 30s.

Regen advantage is smaller than I thought for some reason, especially pre-50. Hp regen doesn't affect leveling speed much or at all under a number of scenarios (eg: grouped and killing at spawn rate), while exp penalty is always in effect.

Your argument about faction is undoubtedly true. Sneak + FD minimizes the penalty for bad faction, but I can't imagine that it's a complete non-issue the way it is for human monk.
Xp penalty is only in effect until 60 100% bar then the ac and regen are miles ahead of no ac and regen bonus while the xp penalty is meaningless.

Iksar regen is clutch for monk, but a human will make enjoying the old world/epic easier. I'm facing a similar dilemma in choosing the race of my future alt necro.

Human is so much more stylish but yeah iksar takes the decision out of your hands imo. You don't even suffer from faction issues with FD and sneak. It's kind of like making a non Ogre Warrior. Don't
