Default Will I regret going Human monk?

I'm very lightly twinking a monk: wu's 2h staff, cured silk, 2x 5/55 rings, 2x golden jade bracelet, robe of living fungus, large soiled bag, and some shralok bags.

I can not afford fungi or haste, although my main might do some hunter/forager with the monk nearby for hangman's noose at some point.

The time cost of the exp penalty and faction work I'd feel compelled to do on an iksar make human very attractive. Will I regret not choosing iksar, especially considering that I don't have fungi?

There are plenty of happy human monks playing for the last 14 years.

If you're unhappy as a human, it's because you didn't want to play a human.

Iksar racials fit so well with monks. The extra AC and regen is just so damned useful. I've had times where I had to FD a bad pull and regen a good amount of my health back while FD. Also, if you ever end up getting a fungi later in the game your regen will be crazy. Right now I think i regen 31hp a tick. If i have a shaman/druid regen me I feel like I'm playing wow it's so easy.

However, if you are the type of person who really wants to have good faction everywhere or who wants to level faster, then maybe human is your best bet. I don't really notice leveling much in this game cause for me, once I hit max level, the game is over cause there is no way you will ever see me poopsock a target for some marginally better gear. Also, if you need faction to bank, well, you don't. You can bank with sneak and do most turn-ins and vendoring with it also.

So, if you want to get 60 faster, be a human. If you want to be awesome at 60 (and the whole way up), be an iksar.

How is the extra AC so damned useful, when AC is worthless on p1999?

Human monk graphics for velious armor are 100x better looking than iksar imo. Tbh I think iksar animations look retarded too. If you go human monk you'll still be an overpowered class.

While I am partial to iksar monks as far as functionality, I have to agree with Lojik, human monk graphics in velious look freaking awesome. I had the velious skins for a bit and was always envious of how cool human monks looked.

As a casual player with a 57 Iksar monk who began with almost the same gear you've listed (Wu's Quivering, no haste until 51) and soloed from 1 to 46, I do think you'll regret not making an Iksar. Depending on how casual your play schedule is, you'll likely end up fear kiting alone in outdoor zones for most of your low and mid levels. The standard Iksar progression of FoB -> Kurn's -> WW -> FM -> DL seems almost designed to support us solo-kiting monks. Add to that the innate regen bonus, which will drastically reduce downtime compared to humans even into the late 20s/early 30s, and the proximity of merchants/bank.

As for faction, I can say with perfect honesty that the Iksar's faction issues have never been more than a slight inconvenience for me. It's easy enough to FD bank in Highpass when you're not in Kunark, and you can buy from any merchant in the game by sneaking behind them. It's also easy enough to roll a human monk mule to do your sash and headband turn-ins. Except for the eyepatch and pornstache face graphics, I really don't see any reason to roll human over Iksar. The exp penalty will only really be noticeable after level 40, and even then only if you solo, which by that time will have slowed down so much that I imagine you'll instead be driven to groups in Sol B and CoM.

In short, go Iksar b/c the apparent advantages of human aren't really advantages.

I ended up going human. I prefer qhills --> blackburrow --> HHP --> HHK to anything in Kunark until at least the early 30s.

http://wiki.project1999.com/Iksar#In...P_Regeneration

Regen advantage is smaller than I thought for some reason, especially pre-50. Hp regen doesn't affect leveling speed much or at all under a number of scenarios (eg: grouped and killing at spawn rate), while exp penalty is always in effect.

Your argument about faction is undoubtedly true. Sneak + FD minimizes the penalty for bad faction, but I can't imagine that it's a complete non-issue the way it is for human monk.
