This is what the community needs. Thanks Detoxx for starting to reach out to the new player base. A true raid hero. Hit this guy up, he's loaded and has plenty of free time so I'm sure he will run up to ever frost and help you out.

The devs have been made aware of this. They did improve things last year after we complained about it which is appreciated.

However, I do not believe the Everfrost newbie area is close to the same as it was on live.

The problems:

-not enough level 1 mobs and far too many yellow cons for a level 1 player
-still not enough level 1-3 mobs in general

You pretty much have to be twinked to survive and progress through the Everfrost newbie zone.
Agreeds. Except the last sentence, obviously you can struggle by without twink.

Whenever I am running a character to Halas and in danger of running past the entrance in Everfrost, I can usually find it by looking for the naked barbarian corpses.

Everfrost has always been probably the hardest newbie zone there is but it's a bit harder in p99 as no one really levels there, the old days there was people to group with and help each other.

Getting to Halas is like climbing Everest; corpses scattered everywhere in the ice along the way.

When I started here in 2010, it was on a Barb Shaman, naked and penniless. Some passerby tossed me like 50 plat and a fine steel spear, rest was history.

I picked off lowbie stuff til 2 or 3.
Then onto the ice goblin huts toward the south til 6 or 7ish.
Then the gnolls outside Blackburrow, collecting fangs.
Etc, etc.
Saved all my fangs til like 11 or 12 = insta midway through 14.
Picked up bind affinity, SoW, and headed off on foot for Freeport.

Was so very awesome after not playing EQ in almost a decade.

My very first character in eq was a barb, so everfrost has a special place in my heart. It's rough, but I think there's more reward in it. It's a shame people don't use the west side of the world as much, I think it's much better than shitty commanlands, nro, and oasis.

Suffer through it until blackburrow. Then save all your fangs until about level 10 to get you to 11/12. Then if you're feeling up for go to the whisp island in eruds crossing. Farm lightstones there until level 14ish, then head to nk and turn all those in. You'll get 16/17 off those.

Bandit camps in WK are also good for sashes around lvl 14 I think. Been a while.

Light stones are pretty decent xp and loot. I remember on Jimjam I had an almost full set of vendor brought plate (yes, the stuff that costs 100s per piece) by 17ish. It was pretty sweet. Fortunately the vendor sell back price is pretty decent too.

This is a good point. Halas is pretty brutal starting out, but things rapidly improve ^^ Welcome to p99 OP!

My first character was a Barbarian warrior, so Everfrost always gets special love from me. I think the zone is fabulous for low levels. Many of the mobs roam down a specific path and can be pulled to the side for easy exp. You can get tattered armor through turning in skins. It really is a fantastic zone.

Damn! Now I want to make a Barbarian warrior but who has time for that these days?
