Whether a plucky halfling warrior desparate to earn favour with Zek's purest creations (the storm giants), a dour hermit ranger who is out all weather and carries the wrath of a storm, or a wizard of Erollisi Marr that lovingly euthenises monstrous creatures to end their pitiful lives of suffering.

I chose deities all the time because they were cool. The drawings and stories about them in the prima guides and shit? Why WOULDN'T you pick one? I always had a thing for choosing Bertox and living in Qeynos killing good guards and slumming around in the aqueducts. Or being a Bertox gnome and trying to get to qeynos at level 1 for crazy-little-man roleplay in /say while refusing to kill decaying skeletons because they were spreading disease, etc.

In a heavily religious world, agnostics wouldn't be tolerated by everyone, they'd be hated by everyone.

Not really. You hate someone worshiping no religion more than someone worshiping a different religion? I think the faction system pretty accurately describes how it would work on earth.

Guards of Qeynos view people who worship the local "Good" deities a little better (positive mod). They have negative mods for evil deities. And for most deities not relevant in their part of the world or agnostic there is no mod.

Take another example... The Dead (Dark Elf Necro/SK guild) are religious zealots, but it's not like they're trying to convert anyone. There is huge negative bosts for opposing gods (the largest for Tunare). Even Bertox and Cazic have small negative mods. Innoruuk has a positive mod, Agnostic (as always) has no mod.
