IIRC sense heading starts to take off around 20 so I dump 21 points into it.

Stuff like bind wound goes up fast so it isnt needed. Fishing also sucks even if it is 200 so not really worth it.

Tradeskill it depends on which. Blacksmith you'll need the metal bits/bonings/studs anyway so don't bother. For other ones the time saved might be worth it to you.

Research is a good one in my opinion. The spells you need aren't always available when you need them (I got feedback at 54 on my ench...) so for self reliance it can be worth it. Just skill up on combines and drop a bunch of points when you got the mats for the next tier. It isn't like research mats sell for anything significant anyway, biggest draw back is inv/bank space.

Giving a small boost to a new weapon skill is also worth it as far as I am concerned because starting from zero is annoying and it can take a very long time to raise.

Yeah general rule of thumb is put 1 point into everything so you can skill it up as you use it in the world. I even put one point into all the languages because it unlocks more over time just so I could in theory level up a variety of languages even though those are basically useless in EQ.

You'll have a lot of excess training points. I usually use them to get started on a tradeskills if I need to level one up for completion of a quest. I think the base tradeskills you can only use points up to lvl 21 some class specific ones can go higher (I remember doing rogue poison making to like 100 or whatever the class guide said on the wiki).

As pointed out tradeskills aren't really a money maker on P99. I only do what I need to make quest combines trivial (even then a lot of those can be purchased for MQ) or class specific skills like rogue poison making, alchemy, or jewelcrafting are actually worth it. Those are worth leveling and can at least breakeven if not be cash flow positive. Alchemy is the only trade skill to date I've used to make a profit and even then it was really just a break even until the high end potions (stinging wort potions specifically)

One thing that I wish someone would have told me to train was Meditate at level 4. Just in case someone is reading this in the future and wants to know what to train.

I still have a ton of points I haven't spent. I guess I'll ignore them because I think training also costs coin.

Yeah really good point, I keep the wiki page open for whatever class of character I'm playing. On the wiki there will be a chart for what level you are able to train skills that aren't available at lvl 1, generally these higher level skills are the most useful so be aware and make arrangements to travel to your nearest guildmaster when you ding the applicable level.

Also a variety of skills are broken in game where it looks like you can put points into them but you're actually still below the required level to do so and the game will eat your points with no benefit. Again reference the Wiki for clarity on what level you can start to train various skills.

or level 8 for priests. IDK for hybrids.

there is a bug for non-magi that it appears able for training earlier than what it should do.

Also, at around level 13 (maybe even 12 as a necro?) you can kill the guy who drops https://wiki.project1999.com/Shralok_Pack (during the daytime) in nearby Kithicor for both XP and a great bag.
Uh, did the gods see your suggestion and smite me just as I have reached level 12? So now that this bag isn't available in Kithicor... any bag advice? Medicine bags just got nerfed too.

Personally I'd just stick to store-bought backpacks, but if you want fancier ones ... https://wiki.project1999.com/Bags

Yeah I think I accidently skipped dodge on my enchanter until much later on. When I start a new toon I make a small list of what to learn at which level.

I always skip dodge and parry on characters that can later learn riposte.

Sorry, clerics!

You uh... got that list handy?

Also, do I need to train dodge?
