These rooms exist because they are the coordinates of 0,0,0. It is the developer box.

Called the cat box, if you were being bad on live you could be sent there for a time out.

There all over the place, I heard years ago that one of the developers cats passed away while he was helping create EQ and that was his way of immortalizing him.

Places like this are not uncommon in MMOs at all. WoW has a 'GM Island'. I think they all have one place or another. A lot of times they're areas GMs can test stuff on live and use for storage. I heard about the Cat Box years and years ago, a few people hit one in the Plane of Disease I think it was.

This. Sometimes, on live anyway, if you fell through a zone it would port you into the cat room as it was a safespot, youd have to gate or petition to get out. sometimes it was used as a timeout box as well...

On live when we did vp, after pop era we just did it for laughs, xygoz would banish people there and it sucked...

that's pretty interesting, never seen the cat version.

on live, I was in sol B once and fell through the floor and ended up in a similar room, except the walls were covered with /locs.

When I first started playing EQ back when first came out, exploring Qcats I would fall through the world a lot.

Almost each time I would get teleported to the cat room. Happened in SolB a few times, but usually with SolB I would just get stuck free falling until I died under the world.
