It was no secret that Smed and Brad were both staunch Christians and that the office in general was very faith oriented in 1999-2002.

I believe I heard rumors there were faith-based questions even asked of potential job applicants. The heads of the company were very religious.

So again, if you wanted to host/create porn and roll the dice while actually trying to play the game-- you were shit out of luck. The entire staff was ideologically opposed to you and you would be named, shamed, and banned in that order.

I don't think it's as simple as that. Everquest always had a lot of dark content and sexual themes. Quests like murdering a pregnant halfling, or murdering a father's daughters for him. Or better yet just look at the Firiona Vie art cover for Kunark, you can't say that isn't rapey. Where the story crossed the line was having an underaged character in it. Granted, Verant handled it horribly, the story was on a third party site that probably very few players ever read. By banning Mystere they probably hurt themselves more than by ignoring it as it got way more attention than it deserved.

Sure it may not be as simple. These posts prior were ignoring and thereby discounting the role that the religious beliefs of the office that was calling the shots had-- perhaps because they are naive, or maybe just low info posters.
