I never got the whole name police thing. Overly dumb "RP" names annoy me more, to be honest. I guess cause you know they made an effort to have a good name, whereas people with stupid names were just trying to be stupid.

I remember that guy named "Slutmagic" .. it was pretty funny. Glad they changed it though.

Well, now I'm curious. Is my surname objectionable? Not only did I have that surname on live, I had it on Xev, Sullon Zek, Kane Bayle and Stromm. (Yes, I leveled four druids on live.)

As being a Senior Guide and working with the GM staff, 95% of the time they did not go on witch hunts. They only CHANGED surnames and names if players petitioned saying "IT IS RUINING MY GAMING EXPERIENCE!" unless of course the first / last name was really offense like "ngrfgt" or something stupid. Bottom line, if someone complained it got changed if it didnt meet policies, unless it was racist, etc otherwise if they saw it, they'd change it and take action against your account.

This is crazy. If the name offends you, that is one thing...if you just dont like the name being used, lighten the @#%$ up. GMs nerfed one of my toons on live...my alt's name was Dymebagg. The ONLY reason he nerfed it was because of the drug reference. Funny thing is, he changed it to Dimeadozen...so the GM changed my name to a name that violates the naming policy. That is how much they cared about it.

Since I see my character's name on the list.. "Fearstalker", I wanted to point out something. I have a character named "Fearstalker" on two live servers (one enchanter and one monk). It passed the name checks and I have interacted directly with GM's and Guides on the live servers with these characters without issue. I also have a character "Deathstalker" (here as my Shadow Knight) and other variants of the two names on Live.
The main thing about the name filter / corrective action from GM's, is to address stuff like non-fantasy phrases, offensive names, titles, product names, etc. I was a guide for a couple of years on live and I know what name types were considered unacceptable. We tried to be fair and flexible but some names were clearly unacceptable. I was surprised at the names which I saw here and assumed that there wasn't a name policy. It was not until about a week ago that I learned that there is a name policy which is in effect and enforced. Remember also that a name change hurts the person playing the game too (especially if playing the character for a long time and has built a reputation and list of friends) so I think that in such cases, unless the name is in clear need of a change, that it should be left as is. If I recall correctly, if a character was past 20, the name would need to be clearly in need of a change, lower than that and the GM was much more willing to change it. (Guides couldn't change names, just note it and escalate to the server GM / include in our shift notes)

Is it really that much of an issue or hurts your feeling that much that people gotta complain about a toons name?
Who cares? its a game lighten up, people dont like something and they think its ok to deny or take it away from someone else..as long as it doesnt affect them! Who really cares about a name. goofy or silly or what ever. | ||
