Default Pet grouped xp etc

I'm currently grouped with a guy i'm not in zone with.

I'm getting "You gain party experience" messages.

If pet does 51% or more of the damage will he still take xp under this circumstance?

fantastic, so the trick is to just group up out of range or zone

Wait - what?

This would be too silly to be true. Can someone confirm either way based on parses or similar?

I have myself noticed that I'm getting "You gain party experience" if I'm grouped but the other guy is too far away in zone to get exp. I've never tried and thus not experienced getting "you gain party experience" if grouped with a guy in another zone. I'm gonna assume these messages are based on the same check ('grouped': yes/no) and thus have the same result expwise.

I have always believed that this was a bug with the message, and not actually possible to utilize. As in I believed the exp to behave just like if I was ungrouped.

If it in fact is possible to group with someone outside the zone (or far away) to receive full exp without the 50% penalty if pet does 50%+ damage, well, that would be game changing.

I just tested it and it seems to good to be true. You apparently have to be in xp range and splitting it with the guy to not lose xp to pet.

Even as a necro my pet (hasted or otherwise) is far and away my best consistent source of damage ... to the point that I have to send pet in late or call it off and alter my casts just to not let pet out-dps me in a sustained xp sort of setting. Would have been cool to bypass the pet stealing xp.

Even casting only 1 less dot per mobs dramatically increases my kill to mana ratio.

Hehe, ok.

Happy to still believe I broke charm before finishing off mob for a reason for 59 levels.

And yeah - that is one of the things that makes necros hard to digest for me. Go duo with an enc I guess. Win/win.

Happy hunting.

Soloing is over rated anyways - Duo is where its at. Necromancers have so many options when you get to charm levels. Enchanter/Shaman/Cleric/Monk/2ndNecro/Mage all make EXCELLENT partners for a charm duo. Monk is really a great partner when you have access to Shadowbond...The necro heals are real.

Necro is a hugely underrated duo partner for a decently tanky melee. Necro/Monk Necro/Pal or Necro/War are amazing combos for fast xp/hour through most levels.

I'm very much looking forward to the flexibility.

I've noticed that Pact of shadow only causes 1/2 the hp loss to necro as amount healed to target (45 lost 81 healed) while the higher level shadowbond is 1hp lost per 1hp healed. I know you can and should dispel the recourse, but I annoyingly sometimes dispel the wrong buff (2nd will drop instead of top).

Is Pact really > than shadowbond in terms of hp to heal conversion or is that a wiki bug?

And on that note ... I'm now mad at all the bad necros I level'd my other toons alongside. Necro healing power is legit strong.

Why is it so few necros I've grouped with utilize this? Bad players? Lazy? Uninformed?

It seems necros in classic have healing capability that passes even clerics outside of complete heal scenarios (which are very few and far between until the upper 50s).

If necros are so awesome, why did I see so few awesome necros?
