Default Classic spell effects & Quarm

Anyone know if there's a way to modify spell particle effects on quarm to match classic? Their spell effects are decent but not anywhere close to classic. The lv 39 buffs don't have the blue particles, heals are all wrong.. etc.

Delete or rename your spellsnew.eff and spellsnew.edd files to prevent them from loading. This will load the original classic particles on that client. You may need to enter /showspelleffects on in game for them to show up as with both particle engines load, it causes a crash, so they defaulted them off.

Questions about this..
  • if I got this right, titanium is technically a newer client but uses the old classic spell effects, and quarm is using the takp mac client.. which is older but uses new spell effects?
  • its been ages and i don't remember, was p99 using new spell effects at launch and it took a bit of time to get the old pretty ones working? I see multiple threads floating around like this one
  • I was messing around on Quarm, tried to delete the spell effect files and do the "/showspelleffects on", but they looked kinda funky and the opacity slider doesn't work. I think I saw another old post of yours sayings its baked into the eqgame.exe? Is it a lost cause to try and get the lovely p99 particles on Quarm/Takp?
  • is the crash a common occurrence?

The titanium client doesn't use the classic spell effects by default. The P99 patch files alter the client quite a bit.
