Question Won't launch under certain gfx resolutions

If I launch the game under 1680x1050 I get an error saying that Everquest encountered a problem and needs to shut down. If I change the ini file to 1024x768 and change my desktop to match, I can then log in and change the resolution in game back to 1680. 1680 will only work fullscreen and not windowed.

Any thoughts? Some magical change I need to make in my ini file?

Cheers,
Delerium (Beck the Bard)

Hello Delerium,

What kind of graphics card are you using, and drivers?

I've played P99 fullscreen, at 1680x1050 without problems, including launching it directly at that resolution (which is usually what I do). Never had to change any resolution values in the .ini files.

I'm using a Nvidia 9800GT with 196.75 nvidia drivers. I can consistently log in if I set my desktop to 1024x768. I can then switch back to 1680 after I'm in EQ.

/boggle. Very strange, and an annoyance more than anything. It doesn't affect my ability to play, I just can't sort it out.

Cheers,
Delerium

I had this problem as well. I initially could not play until I altered settings in 3 different locations. My advice would be to play with the following 3 until you find something that works for you.

The resolution for EverQuest in the options menu.

The compatibility you run EverQuest in (Windows98, XP, etc. You can do this by right clicking the EQ icon and clicking the Compatibility tab)

And finally your desktop resolution.

I believe my final solution was running in Windows 98 with desktop reso set to 1440 x 900 and EverQuest set to 1280x768.

Hope this helps some. But like I said, I had to play with all 3 settings for nearly 30 minutes until I found the combination that even let me log in. And I am happy with the resolution in game.
