Default EQ2 on Nagafen

So I haven't played EQ2 in along time, and never got into it originally because of the f2p restrictions. They have recently removed the item restrictions from all f2p accounts & I started a new toon on the PvP server.

What I remember of the game was level lockers griefing the lowbies all around level 20 or 30. Does anyone have any experience with the game as of late & could tell me what to expect as far as OP classes or strange mechanics?

So far it really feels like WoW. Go here, do this, come back, prosper. Chain pulling mobs & seemingly never running out of mana... Does it get harder? or is this really it?

EQ2 was an awesome game early in its release. Unfortunately it followed much of the same path as EQ1 Live and is a shell of it's former self. I decided never to waste my time again when they removed the spell rank books, it was a cool mechanic.

EQ2 did (and maybe still does) have the best mentoring type system of any game I've seen though. Essentially someone can delevel themselves and basically become a supertwink level X and group with their buddies.

It seems eq2 is less populated than red99, I leveled 1-30 in 2 days and haven't seen a single player yet. I also just found out you can buy a level 85 character...

Uninstalled, rolled a new toon on red.

Until the 14th or 15th you can actually get a free one, after that it's 3500 SC ($30-35) to buy one.

The game isn't bad honestly. But it's more WoW style than EQ1 style for sure. Quest hubs, lots of AOEing down packs of mobs, ability rotations, etc. Graphically I like the styling better than WoW, and I think the game has more depth in combat and tradeskills.

That being said it isn't a challenging game to level in at all. Raiding was always really good compared to WoW, EQ1/EQ2 always took a different approach. I found WoW raiding to be something like - boss emotes "I'm about to do a big AOE attack everyone run away"...you do it then the boss emotes something different and you essentially follow the directions. EQ1 and EQ2 was more of, the boss will hit for a random amount of damage in this range and from time to time will use an ability that will do this and you need to react to it quickly. Far less scripting to the encounters.

Not to say there weren't hard raids in WoW, just a different style to it.

EQ2 pvp was meh...it wasn't as imbalanced class wise as EQ1 but it didn't seem as good for some reason, hard to describe.

Like every game that old though, the entire thing has been watered down and any difficult mechanic removed at this point in time. They have the whole mercenary thing like EQ1 Live which ruins any low level social aspect. EQ franchise guy Dave whatever even said it when talking about heroic characters, in regards to high level raiding players saying oh great, a bunch of newbs who have no idea how to play their class...nobody was learning to play their class properly in a group until 85+ anyways since they were solo all the time.

We just gotta face it, EQ1 is still the best MMO around. Some of the korean games have potential but ruin it with item shops and endless retarded grinding at max level.

Hopefully EQNext recaptures the EQ1 spirit!
