Default Short random pauses/freezes?

Recently I reinstalled Windows 7 on my laptop. With that I installed all the drivers and software I had before. Before the reinstall I created a backup copy of my EQ directory and then moved it over once everything was complete.

- eqgame.exe running in compatibilty mode.
- The user account has full administrator rights and eq is running as administrator.
- Cleared out all my previous logs.
- The NVIDIA control panel set to use the NVIDIA graphics card and not the on-board graphics card.
- Edited shortcut for EQ that tells it to use 1 core: "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 eqgame.exe patchme"

For the most part everything is the same... but here is the problem.

I get a random pause every now and then (maybe 3 times for every 5 minutes) where EQ just stops. It looks like the game has locked up but then it will release after a second or two and everything will be normal again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone happen to know a fix?

Thanks!

does EQ lock up or does the whole computer lock up? What else do you have running? music, browser, etc etc.

How old is the laptop?

Why do you only have it running on 1 core. This is EQ you should be Firing on ALL cylinders!!

I know you said it's a fresh install, but did you happen to also install any sort of virus scan? I had a similar issue a few years ago on another emu server, caused by an anti virus constantly checking the game.

I've tested it with no other applications running and I still get the pause.

It is only EQ that locks up not the whole computer.

The laptop is newish... i7 16gb raid1 600m video card.

Like I mentioned before I reinstalled the OS and all the drivers EQ was running flawless.

I did installed Antivirus and of course it found the dsetup.dll to be a virus. I restored the file and excluded the EQ directory from being scanned. In my previous OS installation I had Antivirus but I believe the version I am using now is newer. I'll try eq without it installed and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

You could also try running it in WinEQ2 to see if that fixes your issues.

WinEQ2 solves this problem.

Also, you can try limiting FPS to 55 or 60 in alt + O settings. That will help with the problem - though don't use that option in conjunction with WinEQ2.

WinEQ2 sets a better FPS limiter than the ingame one performance wise.
