Default Why EQ live still has luclin models?

EQ started: 1999.

SOL expansion: December 2001

Almost 3 years playing with old models.

2001-today

14 years playing with Luclin models.

Why old models got replaced so fast but annoying and retarded luclin models are still there?

I will just talk about the iksars as example:

Watch how old iksar model swims, then watch how """""new"""" luclin iksar swims.

Old iksar face: fearsome and savage

""""New"""" iksar face: It seems that they are smiling, and their eyes are like this

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Its clearly an involution.

And iksars arent the worst models, all the small races are just pitiful.

Luclin is superior in every way. Luclin Iksar is the primary reason I roll Luclin.

I wish they would redo them following the classic models as a guide. Blizzard did this, and I think they did a good job.

They tried in like pre-TSS - got a new human model on test which nobody liked.

Main problem is that there are so many races in EQ, plus male/female versions, plus all the animations and armor needed. EQ also used an animation model that wasn't in use in SoE anymore. In the end they had no staff to do it - which is why they contracted out the new model around 2005-2006 to a foreign company. After they spent the money and people didn't like it (also because it would replace both old and luclin models)....they had some minor alterations and it became the drakkin if I recall.

Is from test on those models. At that point the idea was dropped and SoE probably never again had the income/playerbase to justify considering it.

Not gonna lie, that human model is actually pretty good! See I would have been super happy if that's what Luclin brought but jesus christ, not the abominable turds they crapped out at the time. It's a tragedy of the ages and one of the biggest stains on the human condition to ever happen in the history of happening.

Well, it doesn't look bad from shoulders up.

However, if you had time to study the new race that these models became, you'd see that they had issues. The animations are poor, the characters actually come across as lifeless dolls - they're basically just bad imo.

The problem in alot of MMO's imo is that they try to make the models too realistic, this is why some more cartoony graphics can be better in many cases (and why ppl like old eq models and even wow models), because people don't look at them and expect human smoothness & expression, and are acceptable of different forms of movement. But if its too close to a RL human, we look at it and compare, and then we complain.

Luclin models are sorta on the bubble, I didn't like them in general. I only used them for the mount.
