Default Kerran Fishing Spear

This item was able to be equipped in the range slot in classic and I'm not exactly sure why they would have changed that later on. It doesn't seem like being able to have it in ranged would make it overpowering with the power curve that EQ has.

I have done the quest on live before specifically because it was able to be placed in the range slot. Regardless, some supporting evidence:

(2002)
"the only reason i can see doing this is because it has stats, can go in a ranged slot AND is magical. I have a troll shaman that STILL does not have a magical weapon at 11. If a ghoul jumps me or I accidently hit a willow wisp... Im dead. It does however share the common trait almost all piercing weapons do, and thats crappy stats. but in a pinch even with its bad ratio you could switch it out for a magical. I imediately thought Rogue when I saw it I think the bonus' are better for that class then pally.

And that post was right not all piercing are usable by a pally, not by a long shot."

This pic from June 2000 disagrees with you. Will need more evidence.
