They're the only people actively welcoming new players to the server. It's not an exclusive club...it's not an alternative to one of the competitive raid/PvP guilds, and it's not intended to be...it's just a casual leveling guild where you can find groups to level up with and ask questions of the helpful and well-meaning members in guild chat.

Oddly, jaded and bitter haters are enraged by this. Yes, I've seen many other people complain about TD's open recruitment. If the guild is not what you're looking for, you should simply look elsewhere. The only real problem with joining this guild is that every few days, a rager flips out in guild chat and gets the boot. OP seems the type, actually.

I'm reminded of the Groucho (?) Marx line, "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."
