Default Help With choosing a class

Hey All,

Starting back up again after quite a long hiatus. Ive read through a ton of threads here regarding what people think of classes. In the end, I have a few questions that I havnt seen answered in which I would like to hear some feedback about.

1) Bard - this seems like the perfect fit for me, I love utility and back in the day I used to love cycling through 5 mobs in KC and keeping them mezzed. I'm concerned about the lack of dps though, are bards any help in the dps department? IIRC they never get double attack correct? If bards had better dps this would be an easy choice for me. Thoughts?

2) Out of all the other classes, I havnt seen much talk about where rogues rank in comparison to all other pure melee dps.

I don't have much interest in playing a caster to be honest. I almost addressed my own concerns while typing this I suppose.

Any thoughts?

Rogues are top dps. Bards arent really DPS they don't get double attack. If you want to do a lot in a group pick a bard. In a group you will be pulling/mezzing/attacking/buffing. As a rogue you will stand behind the mob and press backstab.

If I were to roll a bard, I would be able to get a small amount of plat going from a friend. What are some gamechanging, pivotal items that help for bards?

A bard isn't dps, but they make the group a lot better. Regen, mana, haste, pre-slows, cc, chain-mezzing casters....

Rogue has almost no responsibility. Bard has a lot.
Rogue has 1 job. Bard has many.
Rogue is easy blender style dps. Bard is more involved.

What sounds more fun to you?

A bard sounds more fun personally. It seems like a clear cut choice to me. I know you guys are saying bards arent dps, but does this mean that whatever they do put out is negligible?

It is not that they don't do damage, it is their focus is more group support. A bard will do a lot of different things, rogue is just dps king.

It is a decision on whether you want to see your big numbers dropping mobs, or keeping party up and rolling smooth, taking down targets with efficiency. I can't really answer the gear question, I am mostly a half-afk wizard in my travels.

Understood, thanks for the replies guys.

I would much rather keep a group going smoothly, than be a simple dps role. I think the choice is pretty clear to me.

If anyone can chime in on some items that work really well for bards, let me know!

For gear guidance, check Ravager's 1k Twink Guide and the gearing section of the Bard article on the P1999 wiki.
