Default Bard swarm 160ish ms

Would like to hear from someone who does/did this to level up. What zones, number of mobs per run, general thoughts.

I have about 160ms ping but reliable link, barely any packet loss.

Hey, I leveled up like this, it seems to be a fine art of managing a short list of thing to not kill yourself and others.

This guide here really helped me a lot, I would read this through and see if you have anymore questions.

http://wiki.project1999.com/The_Tech...E_Kiting_Guide

-Pick a style that works for you and just practice it to death (Strafing, Selos circles)
-Always double check your hotkeys before starting, IE rights songs in right gems, you haven't changed your /cast numbers.
-Instruments are important to change out if you can manage it since later on they double your damage on the dots.
-Missing a dot on the mobs is ok, you're trying to kill a large number at once, not in a short time. It's more or less a battle of attrition.
-I've pulled up to 80 mobs per pull, but also down to 20, depending on who's in the zone and how the lag is that day since sometimes there's just weird spikes. I used to play a Wizard on live and 4 mobs per bar of mana was great. We don't really use mana though so really whatever you end up being comfortable with is fine.

Some technical things you can adjust to help the lag bursts, hide Dot damage, set FPS to 30, when you finish stacking your mobs turn your Far clip plane distance down all the way ( you can set hotkeys to do this ). Turn off spell effects.

This wound up being a whack of info to toss in, hopefully it's not to disorganized to make sense. Hopefully it helps a bit.

When you hit 30, Firiona is the place to be. You can get to almost 50 there. Then BW or WL tar goos/dragons (dragons are on Tunarean court faction, but drop crushed gems. Totally worth it on this server).

Basically everything there is to know about bard kiting is here from my experience. Turn off NPC and PC names as well if you are laggy during a kite, I have found this helps some, I also turn off the Sky.

Can you please explain:

1. Why FPS to 30
2. Why far clip down? if my comp can cope with however many mobs there are

Also I tried to swarm the Nybright Sisters in Lfay. It worked. But every once in a while they would just jump forward and own me. I didn't seem to have any lag. Last time I got them to like 30%. It's like for whatever reason I'd just slow down or they'd speed up at some point and rape me. Any idea? I watched messages closely and I had a Selos land on me literally a couple seconds before this happened.

Not exactly bard related but I get this when pulling sometimes in various places, stunned by a mob you are running away from with sow/selos on.....wat?

I often wonder if seemingly-random long reach from NPCs is a product of EQ not liking circles.

View distance is a square. You can see farther on a diagonal than you can straight ahead. You can test easily in dark/foggy conditions, cause you can look straight at something and it isn't visible but if you turn to an angle it pops into view. Especially noticable like when you're crossing DL from way up while levitating.

I wonder if NPC hit ranges and PC hit boxes or whatever are squares too, and turning this way or that way often results in seemingly-goofy things happening.

turning off all the things mentioned helps reduce the likely hood of lagging/lag spikes. It's not a computer thing, it's a server thing. Depending on how many people in zone and how many actions you are making the server perform (displaying dot damage and further clip planes etc) it can 'lag you out'
You'll still see enemies following you, an you'll still be running around etc, but you won't see any Songs landing, or songs casting (they will gray out and you won't be able to recast) an you won't be able to type etc. Then eventually you will disconnect. It can seem like you're still playing, you won't see any change on your m/s connection bar or anything so the first few times it happens it can take a while to figure out what's happening.
It's a server side problem and varies from zone to zone depending on amounts of people in zone etc. I have had a train of 20 in loio when there were 35ish ppl in zone and lagged out, only to log back in, move to FV and pull every mob I can see (80+) with only 2 others in zone and be able to swarm normally.
Also had small trains in FV as lots of players in zone, get lagged out, come back later when less in zone and can then swarm a massive train.

Long story short, the turning off of lots of things is to reduce the likely hood of lagging, as even with a good comp and connection it can happen

I consistently sit at 160ish ping and have been able to AoE kite decently. I've never had to turn down any settings, the only thing that makes a difference during a kite is if I am streaming something in the background, and even then only on 1 of 4 kites will I lag for a split second and die. Here is a list of what I've been able to do safely:

18-24 OT (Blue)
24-31 LoIO (Blue)
30-48 OT (Red)
48+ BW (Red)

I think I'm getting better at it, just a quick question.

I have a good gaming comp with a decent 3d card and a pretty lousy comp with integrated graphics that runs EQ well enough though.

I pulled the swarmlings in WK (about 40 mobs) on the good comp, killed easily, great exp.

I pulled them on the bad comp and it was super hard. Every time my DoT would hit the swarm, the game would freeze for about 0.1 or 0.2 seconds. This would make the swarm catch up on me slightly, sometimes enough to kill me. I ended up killing it but it took many tries.

I disabled spell effects (/showsp off), set everyone in Options -> Graphics to 0 spells wise, Sound is off in eqclient.ini... Clip plane is at the minimum. It didn't change anything. Game runs super fast, but just freezes for a split second when the mobs gets hit.

HALP

Thanks.
