Default Amazing Server! Questions...

Hey Everyone,

So I stumbled across this server a week ago and as I'm sure you all did -- I quickly became nostalgic/obsessed. When I get back from vacation, I will definitely be starting up a new account. So much for the new years resolution to work out more, eh?

Anyways -- a little background on me (feel free to skip over it) and then a few questions for everyone that I wasn't able to determine from the forum posts:

Background
Starting playing EQ during classic and was instantly addicted. Didn't join a high end raiding guild until SoV, but I've experienced all content in the appropriate time frames (12 person Sol-B Efreeti camps, etc.) Played in a hardcore raiding guild up through and including Depths of Darkhollow. While I played on a bunch of different servers, my most notable characters were:
Lanys: Tovin (Necro)
Tholuxe Paells / Torvonnilous (I played on both, forget the chars): Tovinn (Monk)
Antonius Bayle: Tovin/Karinthia/Shakkha -- Monk/Cleric/Warrior 3-box combo in the guild "Tide"
I'm all grown up now so I can no longer play like I used to (60 hr sessions are out of the question), but I'm looking forward to some good classic EQ fun.

Questions
1 - How "talented" are the players here? Question sounds ridiculous, I know. Some of my favorite memories of EQ are times when groups/raids took down content with far fewer people than it was originally designed for. Is this type of thing common on P99?

2 - What's does class desirability look like from a grouping/leveling standpoint? Seems int casters/clerics/bards are in high demand in the raid scene, what about leveling up? I prefer Monks/Enchanters(Overplayed?) or any class where skill can be a real game changer. Is it too late for low-levels to join the server?

3 - What's the status of Kunark? I have this Monk obsession and would likely go Iksar, though it appears as though Kunark is still in Beta.

4 - How's the population on Sat/Sun morning EST? My girlfriend sleeps in til noon so this is prime playtime for me!

Thanks all!

Tovin

P.S. I recognized some names from Tholuxe Paells -- Cikrasis (Alhazron); Torvonnilous -- Canlrony (Ripcord) + Zenthar (Dither); and Antonius Bayle -- Zasbus (Coldsiln). Any of these folks still playing?

1. you will find a lot of talented players, a large portion of the player base are "hardcore" eqers, but thats not to mean you won't meet any "true noobs". As far as raid encounters go it gets kind of hectic competitively, I believe there were over 110 people in fear last night for ct?

2. There are tons of low levels, alts and new players everyday, you shouldn't have any problem finding groups, in fact in peak hours its hard to find places to exp not people to exp with. The only problem you may have is with exp penalty some people refuse to group with hybrids because it ruins their exp.

3. Kunark is tba...

4. probably 250-300ish on the weekends am, i usually get on at 830am and that seems to be the time.

Good luck! enjoy the server

For number 2, since Rhambuk didn't cover the monk/enchanter part of it...

Monks are in high supply on this server, enchanters seem less so, but there is really no shortage of either class. That being said, GOOD enchanters and especially monks are few and far between on this server. There are a lot of people who play both of these classes and get the job done - but from what I can tell, very few who really use the classes to their fullest potential. If you fancy yourself extraordinarily skilled at either of those classes AND you actually are extraordinarily skilled at one/both of them, you'll have no problem finding players to play with.

Just so you know, the raiding theme on Project 1999 is zerg.

Stop being a hater Goobles!

As far as "talent" and what not goes - generally the raids on this server are done with more than is required to kill the boss. However, there are a lot of times when you have like 30-35 for CT, but then engage him with 20-30 mobs still up because there are 3 guilds all fighting over him. Or yesterday, IB engaged Naggy with like 10 or something and fought him for like 8 minutes while waiting fro more people to log on (sadly it was like 8am and people weren't quick enough to get on).

There are a lot of instances in which people are not doing mobs with few people, but considering the encounter (mobs + adds and such), it is pretty impressive. Hell, I give credit to any guild that has downed Spiroc Lord (even if they claimed it was impossible and only actually did it after a member from another guild switched guilds and basically handed them the strat!) since pre-kunark, he's a bitch.

I don't think P99 is just full of EQ-allstars, but there are some good players on this server and there have been some impressive raid moments. Hell, Getsome and myself have raided Fire Giants with just us two before! And we were racing a full group of TMO (Cyrius remembers!)

Enjoy the journey to the top. Take it easy and soak in the land and community again. The raid scene is F'D up and will sour you on the game if you arent ready for that type of play. I have greatly enjoyed my time from 1-36 thus far on a class I have never played before (bard).

And if you don't want the forums sucking the life out of you, go here and get rid of this.

Just for the record. There's a post in this section about xp and how it's divided. Hybrid xp penalities are applied after it's divided, and do not apply to the rest of the group...according to the post.

Kind of, not really.

The "XP Penalty" is a bit of a misnomer, or at least it's commonly misunderstood to mean hybrids receive less XP per kill than other classes.

Everybody gets the same number of XP points per kill, regardless of anything... it just requires hybrids more of those total numbers to gain the same percentage of a level. That's the penalty: hybrids need more XP.

So, if you're grouping with a hybrid that is the same level as you, that hybrid is sucking up more of the XP than if you grouped with a hybrid that has the same number of XP points as you (and would most likely be a lower level than you).
