![]() Well Labor Day here in the US is starting to close in, which means the end of summer, once we get past the dog days of summer which are about starting now here. So what were the main games you conquered over the summer? Games maybe you played 20+ hrs over summer.
I don't do much mmo'ing in summer, I like stuff I can pause when it's hot or the sun going down so late. Opposite in the winter, I won't be doing other stuff when a game is running, apart from staying warm right where I am in front of the space heater or fireplace. So p99 early on in the summer, some 20hrs or so running around the snowy peaks mostly. The rest are new steam games I picked up ...well new as in 1-4yrs old that will run on my older laptop, but not too old. I picked up around ten new games, but mainly played 4, all PC versions (all vids are short trailers). Pinball fx2, about 40hrs in so far. About a dozen table DLC's, nothing with super heroes or "football" (soccer) in them, though played most of the demos and watched some lp vids before unlocks. Best tables are probably Epic Quest, Mars Table and Darth Vader. Also Aliens, but that table rustles me sometimes [You must be logged in to view images. Picked it up after the steam summer sale, so only 30hrs in so far and on original game. Sandboxy top-down 3-d space game. Among the top-down games, it's probably closest thing I've found to EVE, an EVE inspired game for sure, and with an Aura mod so far for those sexy voices hehe (ship computer). It's a young game though, could use more content, but full game there at this point. Only game w/o full controller support, but allows button assignments which is very useful. Between mouse/trackball and controller, can set up some smooth controls. About 60hrs of Windward. Another 3-d top-down. Actually this game was about mind numb boring about the first 10hrs, but gets fun and challenging after that. It's like VoidExpanse but more polished, and a good feature with the capture mechanic, giving it more of a real-time 4x feel, from towns to regions to the whole world, which you can design the game map layout for. The Long Dark. At over 100hrs prolly my main play over the summer. My house temp drops 20 degrees every time I launch the game lol. Survival game, it's ruthless and somewhat realistic feeling. I've watched some of the early launch vids, they definitely cranked up the ruthlessness since then. Not the typical build survival, but more a scrounge on your belly and pray for daylight survival. Has a little crafting though, and crafting fur clothing is best started early in sandbox mode. Challenge mode (new to the game) play is a little different, and is good too. So did you pick up something good over the summer?

![]() Politics has been way too entertaining for video games. Its like the raddest form of reality TV unfolding right before our eyes.

![]() Hacknet looked neat.
I want to get No man's sky. I love exploration. Just watching people play has been fun for me. I know its got all the depth of a spoonful of water, but for just the visuals and music - the ambience, it would be worth it for me. Big time trekkie. Been watching that somewhat cheesy Dark Matter show and it makes me want to play it even more. Waiting for it to go down in price tho. $60 is just seems steep for a single player game. Unlike mmos where you want to get in on the ground level, theres just no reason with a single player game. Esp when they will be fixing performance issues and improving it.

On the adventure side though, I found this recently, Gathering Sky. Very different, here's an lp vid with no commentary. It's on my future list with Hacknet, a little higher on the list. The music is all live/real instruments.
