Default Rogue poisons

Are they broken? Why don't rogues use them?

Rogue poisons seem bad ass to me. Snare, slow, dd, dot. I can see using the dd and dot ones to up your dps....ya snare and slow should be covered by a group member. Why aren't people crafting and selling?

There are some rogues that use them. The ones that don't have their reasons. It's too expensive... It's not worth it... I hate tradeskilling... Stuff like that.

They aren't broken though. They do work and they're quite fun, I think. YMMV

Rogue poisons suck. They sucked on live, too, until they were revamped at the end of Luclin and changed to a proc based spell (like what they have in World of Warcraft or Rift).

The problems with poisons in classic EQ is that A) they had a chance to fail when you applied them (Apply Poison is a separate skill from Make Poison) B) you had to sit to apply them C) each poison was a ONE-TIME use, and if you wanted another one, see A and B, so D) you would apply them outside of combat, and would have a huge amount of aggro on your first hit. Ouch.

And none of that even considers how difficult it is to obtain them in the first place.

Honestly, outside of PVP, the only use for poisons on this server is the Mind Melt poison that is part of the Tainted Avalanche Ale for the Coldain ring quests.

It's kind of a badge of glory, but we don't even have trade skill trophies here. I had one on live, but it looks like it's changed since then.

they're great in pvp

once someone is in tov gear with DMF and poison flower they fall off in effectiveness but even then -- dispel/malo and BOOM someone is poison snared and focused down.

Snare poison is the kiss of death in PvP if you can get it to land. On blue, the way poison is implemented severely limits its utility.
My reason for not using poisons is simply due to the inventory it ties up. If you wanted, for instance, to be able to create 20 shots of spirit of sloth, you'd have to carry 2 stacks of creeper ivy, a stack of sealed poison vials, a stack ethereal suspension, and an empty mortar and pestle. Or carry 20 non-stacking poisons with you. I can't afford that space as a raider. That's not to say the effects aren't amazing and situationally useful. It's just easier to not deal with it.

I was able to catch newb 56-60 players with the snare for easy kills, but it stopped being worth using long ago on red. Even in kunark it was resisted quite easily by most classes, in velious its even easier, especially with a PR flower. I gave up my poisons for an extra inventory slot, 4 bags 4 slots. At one point, red poisons were amazing, 45-60 second blind duration just using blind 2 poison. was a great deterrent against any bard in an open zone that came at you trying to chant/snare and double dirge you for the kill. they wouldliterally selos off in random directions til it wore off, saved my ass a few times.

Now I just rely on a combination of sorts of either tash malo occlusion snare root tstaff/windstriker to kill people. a target locked down is a dead target. get snare on someone, even if they are near a zone line unless they are a buffed beefy warior/sk/paladin they are D E A D. with pre velious hitbox changes, not hitting people from 20 yards away anymore makes a snare or root/stun all the more valuable to killing someone as a rogue, we have enormous burst damage.

on top of that, the nerf of the easy way to level poison up(i did it the proper way first time, took way more plat then the iron sulphide method and more running around) and 2 times on the sulphide way. I would say do not even bother. If they stacked, I may carry something like contact II poisons(do around 300dmg or so) but at the same time they pull stupid amount of aggro.

You will find them in use on red. Muscle lock etc (snare) is a great thing to apply...most blue players probably don't even know what it is.

What the wiki really needs is a rogue hero that can make a good poison skillup guide.

I've posted a poison progression path so many times. I'll put it on wiki when I get off work.
