![]() I hardly played back in the day, maybe until like 15 or something, so I'm pretty new to the game still, but what are the downfalls of playing a Dark Elf?
I really like how they look, but doesn't everyone try to kill you? Can I communicate with other players or are there different languages since it's an evil race? I have no clue.. Oh and will I not be able to do quests or sell things? Thanks!

![]() Everyone can speak "common", so you won't have issues talking to other players.
Dark Elves are mostly hated through the world, you can do things to improve your faction and be allowed in those cities, but you start hated, which makes life less convenient, but it doesn't make it impossible or anything. You won't be able to use Qeynos or Freeport as banks or shops for example, you'll have to run more out of the way merchants or to your own city for banking.

![]() What class? Enchanter, and sometimes even Necro or Cleric, can overcome hatred with a few of their innate spells.

![]() I've always considered the faction hits to be irrelevant, particularly at end-game. In live, I played DE characters to max level and never found the "hardships" of fewer banks/vendors to be a handicap at all.
In all honesty, I enjoy the design/feel of Neriak, I LOVE innate ultravision, and the hide skill is mighty handy as well. There has always been plenty of "evil" race quests, resources, vendors, and areas to be commensurate with the "good" races. I don't believe you will sacrifice any enjoyment of EQ by playing an evil race at all.

![]() Druid ring vendors will buy/sell from everyone
As far as quests, there are a couple race/class specific quests, but it's probably not worth justifying a race choice based on that. You don't need faction to use banks. You can bank with bankers that are scowling at you. Just stay out of their line of sight.

![]() So I've gathered a group of friends to start EQ with, will it effect questwise if he choose a dark elf, while the rest of us choose good races?

![]() The only real impact being good or evil is going to have in the early game, is you'll need to keep on that con button to make sure guards aren't going to attack you.
Late game (50+) you aren't going to care -at all- about your faction. the factions that matter, you can fix. Having groupmates (trusted groupmates) of both good/evil alignment means if you happen to need to sell or buy stuff from vendors, you're gonna have someone who is able to do it. (Although, realistically, you're not going to have serious problems finding useable vendors in the first place) Early game questing is largely just an EXP reward, with a garbage item you'll eventually replace, notable exceptions being a really shitty 18sec duration snare necklace MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP Slot: NECK AC: 7 INT: +2 WIS: +3 MANA: +15 Effect: Clinging Darkness (Must Equip, Casting Time: 6.0) at Level 15 WT: 0.1 Size: TINY Class: CLR SHM Race: HUM DEF TRL Deity: Innoruuk Which requires the dark elf to be a cleric. It has uses, true, but they are very niche uses. And 100% useless if your group composition can use a real snare (10min+ druid snares or 1min+ ranger/sk/necro snares - 1min+ weapon proc snares) for fleeing mobs/kiting. Edit : Assless chaps are a worthwhile consideration. you're gonna be in chase cam for a long time.
