Unable to create first character

I am able to login and get to character select. I am able to go through the creation process in trying to create a Barbarian Shaman, so it isn't a race/class issue. When clicking on the next button after entering desired name I get the popup for submitting name for approval and then nothing! I can't go back, obviously don't go forward, get no message regarding rejection, and can only close the window to exit. Still have an empty character list when I log back in. I have tuned off win firewall, antivirus, also created exceptions in both even though they are also off.

Can anyone offer any helpful advice?
