Shaman JBB vs GFG farming greenies

Currently level 49 with JBB, 5/55 rings, and banded. I'm going to push 52 then start farming money for an epic MQ. Assume I'm 52 buffed with self haste with a GFG what kinda DPS could I be expecting meleeing greenies around level 24-32? JBB is ~30 sustained by itself spamming root in between... is it even worth going out of my way to buy a GFG now?

You'll be able to smack greens for 100 on occasion but It's not consistent. The dps is going to depend on a million things so I'll just leave a sample log

Sheesh 7-1/2 minutes to kill Slate straight melee. Thats a battle alright.

Three thoughts:

1) A shaman's melee weapon is the least important contribution to their DPS (relative to the other options of JBB/epic/new spells)
2) DPS and regen increases are the only things that really matter for Shaman (greater maximums will virtually never make as much of a difference as DPS/regen increases, at least when leveling up)
3) Droppable items can be resold

Total those three together and you get my answer, which is that you shouldn't buy a GFG unless you have nothing better to get with your plat (but if you have the plat go for it because even a minor DPS increase is worth it, and you can always resell the GFG). The top contender that I can see for #2 would be an Ikky BP (5 HP regen), but that's like 9k I think? So if you have 9k you should buy that, but otherwise you should buy the GFG, and sell it later when doing so would let you buy an Ikky BP. Then you should save up enough to buy a new GFG, and then sell it (and the Ikky BP) again when you're ready to buy a Fungi ... and then you should sell both later when you can buy your epic.

... except that's a lot of EC tunnel time, so depending on your tolerance for tunnel-ing you may want to skip some of that buying and selling.

You could also get any long delay high damage 2h that is cheaper. Ratio doesn’t matter when you are cutting 6 seconds off your swings with each click. I went with a blight (same look as GFG) and recently switched to a Club of the Ice Ocean and clay guardian shield.

Really though, your melee as people mentioned is rubbish. Every hit taken is mana you can’t canni.

I would go so far as to say shaman melee is counter-productive for a tanking shaman in the mid40s+ vs mobs with riposte, every swing is an opportunity to eat a riposte, and as the levels climb it becomes less and less worth trying to swing for a 1-120 on something that's going to riposte you for 150+.

Edit: I would also like to point out that for a non-tanking/non-solo shaman, throwing in some melee hits (with someone else tanking) while doing your normal canni routine is a free way to add some dps without losing med tics or taking hits. Some mobs are resistant enough to JBB that it's probably better dps with melee than it is to get 90% resists all day on JBB. (although near-immune mobs are rare, they do exist)

I realize this is a thread about green farming but hey sometimes farming greens with a friend is a nice chill time.

No one here has come even a tiny bit close to addressing his question.

I’d say get the gfg, but it doesn’t really matter. If you get it, the price probably won’t change very much by the time you get epic and resell. Also, use a low level slow instead of root, you’ll save mana long term when jbb spamming. The level 25 mobs aren’t going to riposte very much, so ya, your melee swings will probably save you a couple jbb clicks per mob.

No it was not. OP said "I'm going to push 52 then start farming money for an epic MQ" and then asked about the DPS of the GFG while farming greens. He did not say "All I ever plan to do is farm greens and that's all I'm interested in learning about." On the contrary he literally said he was going to get some XP at 51, something that by definition you can't do killing greens.

Also, generally when people talk about gearing up their character, the implicit assumption is that (unless they specifically say otherwise) they want to know what the best thing is that they can do for that character. And again while the OP mentioned farming greens they said nothing about that being all they would ever do with/without a GFG, so the assumption is they are at least somewhat interested in learning what's best for their Shaman overall.

But thanks for failing at reading comprehension, being unnecessarily belligerent (as is usual for you Jeff), and attacking other people for trying to be helpful.

His question is very specific, why completely ignore it?

He, very clearly, has a plan for farming low risk, green mobs, semi-afk, while spending as little mana as possible.

That was one question out of a larger post, and I didn't answer it because I don't happen to know the exact (or even ballpark) DPS of a level 52 shaman equipped with a GFG when killing level 24-32 mobs. I suspect very few people in this forum know that number off the top of their head. So I did the same thing as others here and instead provided what useful information I could (including the simple yet very relevant-to-OP fact that JBB is going to provide more DPS than any weapon ... as would new spells or a regen item).

Beats acting like an asshole and shitting on other people's posts because you have some kind of inferiority complex and need to prove yourself in an elf sim forum (constantly). And to be clear I almost NEVER talk to anyone in the forum like that (except maybe Mick or Scared Child), but I've really grown tired of your constant and consistently unhelpful and negative posts, which often attack others but rarely contribute anything useful to the conversation.

You're smart, and clearly you have lots of knowledge to contribute: we all get that. All I'm saying is you have the option to not be a jerk about it, and it'd be great if you exercised that option more frequently.
