Default Controls/Mouselook

Hey all,

I just started up on P99 yesterday and was trying to set up my UI and controls to make it feel comfortable.

I guess I have no idea how I controlled my character 10 years ago and am too conditioned from current era MMO's. Is there no such thing as a good mouselook in EQ? I right-click and drag and it turns incredibly slow. If I turn up the mouse sensitivity, it has left/right dragging remain the same but the up/down is super sensitive.

Which leads me to my next thing... I assume WASD(QE) controls didn't exist back then? I had to re-map several things that I remember doing back then, such as duck and auto-attack. Does anyone remember the exact default controls from classic? Or have a suggestion to make it comfortable for the current MMO conditioned player?

One last thing... I re-bound the keys when I first loaded it up with the Titanium UI, but when I switched to the optional Velious UI (which I prefer), the big EQ button disappears. Can anyone remind a forgetful EQ Vet on how to access the menu buttons (for display/key bindings/etc) without the EQ button?

Love the project! Can't wait to get comfortable and start grinding!

Thanks all!

alt o for the options window

you should be able to bind whatever you want however you like, there is a tab for key bindings... also you should be able to adjust your mouse for very quick mouse looking -- also on one of the tabs on alt o

at work at the moment or i could give you more specific details for the mouse settings but its in there just have to poke around

Alt+O... gotcha! Yeah I was tinkering around with the mouse settings last night and just couldn't get it to work for me.

Do you use the mouse to look around as well? or arrow keys/WASD? I'm trying to think of how I had my hands set up when playing EQ. It was my first MMO so I could have done something completely odd like left hand on arrows and right hand on mouse, which today feels like a sin to gaming =P.

@Mooka: I had the same problems as you. I use WASD and was trying to use mouselook (the default one, where you scroll back and it goes from first to third person view directly behind your character).

I ended up getting used to switching back and forth between first and third person views. If I'm running through a curvy dungeon, like SolB, I'll scroll back a few ticks and use WASD+Mouselook. Mouselook is much more responsive in third person, allowing you to make sharper turns.

You have to restrict your FPS in Display Options. I set mine to 50FPS and it resolved the slow mouselook L/R movement. I don't normally use a keyboard to play and only have the strafe keys bound to my nostromo D-Pad - I use mouselook for all turning.

Ahhh that would make sense. I don't know why, but it felt natural for me to be in 1st person in EQ, but if scrolling out a little bit and going to 3rd person (which is the norm for most MMO's nowadays) will give me more comfortable control of my character, I may have to get used to doing that.

Thanks!

That being said, how many people play in 3rd person vs 1st person? Just kind of curious how the game would be played in 3rd person.

It seems melee range in EQ is a lot shorter (for the majority of mobs) than in a game such as WoW, so I'm thinking 3rd person would be quite the adjustment on placing my character close enough to mobs.

LOL Mooka , This sounds like me to the T... I loaded this bad boy up and couldn't figure out how in the hell I managed to control this being my 1st MMO 10+ years ago. After getting the feel for WoW controls with WSAD and mouse look I laugh thinking back how I really truely used to use the Up Dn Lft Right arrows and play in 1st person and in a top raiding guild as a cleric LOL.

Thanks for this question as it was bothering me too. Alt+O and change Framerate to 51 helped fix my slow mouse look issue.

Now I just need to figure out how to auto attack.... and some other things.

I normally use WSAD+Mouse too...

But at 1920x1080 on a 47" monitor I have to move my mouse three feet to cover the entire screen.

It's painful.
