![]() You mean here, or by official owners of everquest?
I think as Zyth stated, P99 is the most accurate real EQ there is. Since AlKaBOR closed not in such a distant past, its code (pop era? luclin era?) will likely be preserved, somewhere. But I doubt we will ever see real classic EQ again. Its not impossible. We can dream. Dream that someone involved with sony or verant or something kept the server code somewhere, on some old hard drive and dredges it up for posterity.

Takp was fun. But it isn't classic either. My favorite thing about classic was that there was a distinct end to the journey and that everything was cohesively framed within a thematic vision. Gear mattered but wasn't critical to enjoying the experience or exploring most of Norrath. Quests were for flavor and fun. Not a progressive treadmill. I feel like velios was the start of MMO progression and World of Warcraft was its perfection. I yearn for the time the game was art and the pictures in Highkeeps salons where what was important.

![]() Someday I want to try a fully classic vanilla server, original eq only, timeline correct for every patch up to Kunark. I'm pretty sure I can do it with db templating engine I made.
Wouldn't have p99's classic client mods tho. I think this p99 will always be the definitive classic experience just because it has so much momentum.

![]() You'd have to simulate 1999 internet and 1999 hardware, so that you don't have to do these unclassic mechanics to nerf players.
Maybe someday, doubtful.

![]() You would have to wipe the memory of every player in order to create a classic experience.
That "Classic" server you are describing not only requires original code, but for the player to have little-to-zero knowledge of the game. All of the classic features, patches and gameplay matters for not when you know the stats on every item from every mob and every spell/ability every class has and how to put them all together, before the server launches. I was like 9 when I started EQ, kunark era, made an iksar. I initially thought that the entire game was Cabilis and the Field of Blown. Imagine how my young impressionable mind was blown upon figuring out how big the game was. That hooked me forever. It couldn't happen now (or again) because I know every inch between cabilis and permafrost. But most of us are still literally chasing the dragon.
