Default Cant log in past character select screen

I bought a new computer and EQ was working on it, for about a month or more. Then I changed my screen resolution manually in the EQ folder. I then changed the screen size back manually in the game.

That's when the problem started. I about half of the time, I cant log in past the character select screen. I cant log in the game.

I reinstalled EQ. Same problem.

Then I restored my computer and reinstalled EQ. Same problem.

I cant get past the character select screen. Sometimes I can log in, but only about half of the time. Any ideas?

Please help!

I just recently experienced this scenario trying to install EQ for P99. I couldn't go full screen without crashing, sometimes the character select screen would let me in, or the window would go black and force a restart.

The only way I could get the resolutions to work, after quite a few combinations, was to set my monitor to 1080p from 1440p, then login with the eqclient set like this:

WindowedWidth=1920
WindowedHeight=1080
Width=1920
Height=1080
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=800
HeightWindowed=600

This would only allow me to get past character select and play for a while, but only in windowed mode. However, the game graphics started to freeze at random moments and go black while the game continued to play. You could hear the game sounds, your character running, etc.

That led me to another post from years ago with a guy on You Tube that shows you how to install DGVoodoo2. Just search for Fix P99 Crashes DGVooDoo2 Easy Install. It will take like 3-5 minutes. The video describes why these files are important with modern video cards.

After the install I can use whatever resolution I wish, while my desktop remains at 1440p. Fullscreen also works, giving that true Everquest feel without the washed-out graphics in Windowed.

Hope this helps.

It doesnt crash like normal. I select the character and try to enter the world, and then it will freeze, and repeat the sound effects like it froze.
