![]() Hey! I was wondering if I could pick my first class to be a Rogue. Rogue is perhaps the most group dependent character or so and it's also a melee class. From my research, Necromancer is the easiest solo class and is highly recommended for new players, and so is the Enchanter who is a little group dependent.
But if I wanted to start with Rogue, could I do it? I don't have much experience with the game. I got a Barbarian Shaman up to level 8 and deleted the character. If I wanted to start a new character as Rogue will it be a good choice? Or is it much better to pick Necromancer as your first class? Now I am definitely sure about one thing, is that I want to play as a Human starting in Freeport. What kind of classes and religion do you recommend for me as a completely new player who wants to play as a Human in Freeport? I only wanted to make Rogue my first class because I fancy the Ravenscale armor set.

![]() With a decent weapon(s) and bandages you can solo for a while. It’s much easier with a fungi.
If you dabble in poison making, spine break in the late game can let you solo weak blue cons to 60 with lesser gear. Rogues do best with agnostic since the illusion masks are more likely to give them favorable faction results. I don’t think there is any diety perk for the class. There is no limit to accounts or time here. I would pick my top two favorite classes; a melee and some caster who can solo. It never hurts to have a druid, shaman, necro etc later on. The necro is going to put down fine steel carriers very quickly so you can fund the rogue. Plus then if you find a buddy or two to level the rogue with you have another class to play when they aren’t available.

![]() if it were a newer server with lots of low level grouping you'd be fine
unfortunately its top heavy - everyone twinks / PLs through the early slog tough road solo rogue with no funds

![]() I’m not sure at this point anything is recommended or normal. If this server kept progressing there would be less time to make alts. I would say most people here have at least a couple/few 60’s and a handful of lower alts.
Being able to log on for a senseless grind, farm, or running errands with your alt makes for a better experience. There will be times in your 50’s that the rogue solo spawn is camped. At that point it’s the alt, or just logging off.

You will have a tough time as the rogue, but you will experience the start of the game normally, soloing and killing skeletons and stuff, it will get hard fast! And you will switch to your necro, and then feel the major difference! That will teach you a lot about the game! FWIW bertoxx necro is fun roleplay (but that starts in qeynos) but.. qeynos is really cool and is a good starting area if you are soloing! Though I don't want to turn you away from freeport! Even though rogues are pretty group dependent past early levels, the upside is that they're also very desired. They do a lot of damage, they're good at recovering wipes, handful of dungeons they allow easy access to certain places that normally require keys. It was a bummer wanting to relax and do some grouping on my wizard and it was fairly difficult to find one.

The rest are mostly just ease of travel. I mentioned the rogue like the bard as the illusion masks reset the racial faction hit. Really though, 99% of the time people just use those for the aesthetics. Human agnostic wouldn’t be bad. Probably dubious in most cities. My erudite CT SK can travel almost anywhere without issue, even SFG. Human semi-evil is a great setup as you can go most places outside Grobb and Oggok. And skelly illusion fixes most of that including being able to vendor.
