Merchants: Sept 2000 - Minor Fishing Expansion

The fishing tradeskill saw a minor expansion in Sept2000. The following items were added:

- Tackle Box
- Catch-A-Lot bait
- Circle Hook
- Dry Hook
- Treble Hook

It's as if you three have read my mind. I already have all of these suggestions in progress. A limited amount of new fishing upgrades are going in with the blacksmithing patch and more are on the way after that.

Fishing lure recipes have been discovered, a new dye color sampler has been put in place, and there have been daily changes/additions to the recipes pages.

釣りキチの秋
今回のパッチでひっそりとアップグレードしたはずのFishing(釣り)スキル。
一体何が変わったの? と色付き鎧などどこ吹く風、戦闘中も釣りのことが
気になって気になって集中できないとお嘆きの方もいらっしゃることでしょう。

そこで釣りの情報をまとめてみました。
・新しい材料 -tackle box, hook, Catch-A-Lot bait-
OoTのBBM側から止まる島に新しい商品が売られています。

このような商品が売られています。
Seafarer's ringmailについてのレシピ、
普通のつり竿と餌、

そしてTackleBox、Catch-A-Lot baitなる餌
Dry/Treble/CircleのHook(釣り針?)

では、これを使って何か作れるの?　と言うと
「TackleBoxを使ってコンバインするレシピはあるけど
まだ実装されてないよ」byYakatizmaとの事。

次のパッチで実装されるといいですね。

Yakatizma was busy on the boards today and posted the following information:

Fishing Supplies
There are recipes for the tackle box but no instructions yet.

I don't believe the instruction book was ever added. The lure recipes were discovered through experimentation.

Fishing - Recipes using the tacklebox (fishing lures as well as a few fish recipes) were found via experimentation as well as via hints dropped at Fan Festivals.

Also, during P99's era the Tackle Box should be a 4-slot container.

Tacklebox - 1.0 wt, 4-slot, MEDIUM, non-lore, sold by vendor named Kogg in Fearrot (sp?) at location +1055, +1455.

1. the tackle box is only a 4 slot container! I have to sacrifice
FOUR inventory slots to own one. Should be 8 slot large, like a large
sewing kit.

2. lures are EXPENSIVE to make (couple of silver) unless you go bash
the wasps, bats, rats, spiderlings, etc. yourself. If you loose the
lure when you catch a fish (haven't tried fishing with a lure yet)
then the sale of the fish caught will not make up the loss. There
should only be a small chance of losing a lure when you catch a fish.

3. Hooks and tackle boxes are only sold in really out of the way
places.

You really have to want to make a large effort and suffer great
expense and sacrifice in order to do high-end fishing. Hey, this
models real life to a remarkable degree!

As we see, it remained 4-slot into Luclin. I believe this was changed in the May 8, 2002 patch which introduced the Protection of the Cabbage quest. The quest requires a Blessed Fishing Rod which is made in a Tackle Box. As seen in the rod link, the recipe calls for 5 items, hence the need to expand the box above 4 slots.

I was highly pleased to find that my regular 4 slot tackle box had changed to a 6 slot. Probably to accomodate this new recipe for an enchanted pole.

I'm a good ways away from being able to get the pieces though...

Fixed, pending update

-Tackle Box, Catch-A-Lot bait, Circle Hook, Dry Hook, and Treble Hook aren't sold until [Sep2000]

A new version of Tackle Box will be available at vendors and may be used to combine the same recipes as before.

Existing Tackle Boxes will be handled the same as previous bag changes. Substantially increased their weight, and they may no longer be used to combine items. They may be exchanged at any Priest of Discord, or Shady Swashbuckler for an era-appropriate version.
