Default Crashes/Disconnects while zoning

Since patch V61, I've been having a problem reoccur which I haven't seen since V56 or V57. When zoning there is about a 30-40% chance the game will just hang and I will fail to ever make it into the next zone. Eventually I have to force close the client.

When logging back in I often get the "you still have an active character" message, making me think that this is a client-side crash and not a server-side issue. I've waited up to 15 minutes before to see if perhaps I'm just experiencing a server interruption, but the game rarely, <5% of the occurrences, will load into the next zone. Usually this occurs within in the first 60 seconds of zoning, which is probably a different case of the client being fine and the server just taking a bit to process the zone.

The game is basically unplayable in places like Cabilis/Freeport/etc where zoning multiple times to get across a city to the other starter zones is frequent. Crashing and restarting is taking up 25% of my play time and killing any desire I have to play.

Network Routing Problems: The issue you're describing is a classic symptom of a network routing problem between your internet service provider (ISP) and the Project 1999 server. Your data packets might be taking an unstable or congested path, causing the connection to drop during the critical zoning phase. The most common solution for this is to use a VPN. A VPN reroutes your internet traffic, bypassing the problematic path and often providing a more stable connection.

Saturated Internet Connection: High-bandwidth usage from activities like 4K streaming, large downloads, or other online gaming within the household can saturate your internet connection. While Project 1999 itself doesn't use a lot of data, the game's old networking code is sensitive to intermittent packet loss or latency spikes caused by a congested connection. This can lead to a crash while zoning.

Any idea why this problem specifically seemed to start post V61 install then? Pure coincidence? Nothing has changed from my ISP or otherwise. I even restarted my router just to make sure and still get crashes. I'm on a 500 Mb up/down connection that's very reliable and I'm the only one using it, so I know the bandwidth is not the problem.

comes and goes for me without much rhyme or reason as far as a new patch goes.

here's the full list of witchcraft to try to fix it
