Default What does "Resist:Magic (-200)" mean in a spell wiki page?

For example, Ice Breath, cast by Lord Yelinak (https://wiki.project1999.com/Ice_Breath) has the line mentioned in the title (Resist:Magic (-200)). How do I interpret this number?

For comparison, Flash of light has Resist: Magic (0).

I believe it's saying you use magic resist to avoid that attack, but do so as if you MR was 200 less.

I should note that whenever the wiki references a number that players can't measure, you should take it with a grain of salt. The number probably comes from live data, and so it might not be the same number on our (classic-customized) server.

Thanks for the reply [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

In that case, does it change anything if I have 0 (effectively -200 for that spell) or 195 (effectively -5 for that spell) MR?

If you have 0 MR vs 195 MR against a -200 MR spell check then yes, you are way less likely to resist it at 0 MR as opposed to 195.

For comparison, wizard "lures" are -300 checks and land very consistently, and sometimes even on monsters that are highly resistant to that type of magic (ie. lure of ice can land on ice-resistant mobs where other ice-based spells basically have no chance).

Other factors at play for resist checks are mob level vs your level. Yelinak being level 70 where you are max lvl 60 makes passing that -200 check even harder.

The higher the negative the more like the spell is to land. Essentially you are taking the targets native resist number, subtracting the number associated with the spell and then running a resist check against that reduced number.

So for raid mobs casters are generally using either unresistable or the negative resist spells to have a greater likelihood of landing on mobs. Now not all resists are equal. So for example on a fire dragon using a -300 fire spell may not be any better than a -0 ice spell if the mob has fire resist natively that's much higher.
