Have there been any word on whether exp-penalties for races/classes will be implemented? I'm strongly arguing against it from a design-pov.
They never made any sense, the only argument that could be done for them is that some classes/races are imbalanced and therefore should require more time to level up, but that's just a dumb replacement for trying to attain classbalance. A little over ten years later I hope we're all the more wiser having played this game and do not implement this feature which makes very little sense. I think we can all agree that for example rangers are in no way overpowered and deserving of a exp-penalty. Sure, some classes are stronger then others in various situations but I think it's pretty fair to say that they horribly misjudged who these classes and races are. Overall exp-penalties were a mistake which never should have been implemented, probably a reminiscense of old roleplaying-games I don't know of. Let's not make the same mistake again!

Lol.
That is totally wrong. Trolls level faster because they have regen and are really strong, so they gave them an EXP penalty to even things out. Ogres level faster because they have insta twink by having the best stats ever..so they level a LITTLE slower to even things out. Trolls level slower than ogres. It totally makes sense and the number of ogres and trolls and iksars in game are evidence of the fact that it works great. If you want to be RP about it you can say that it is because trolls and ogres are so stupid that they receive experience slower than other races.

Clerics are the undisputed kings of healing, no class comes close to it. This should by your logic yield a penalty? Erudites are better int-casters then other races etc. I guess what really bothers me are the hybrid penalties. The are completely unreasonable and should never have been implemented.

yeah the hybrids penalty does not match up with any supposed bonus they are getting. I think its just a flawed D&D concept that got carried over to EQ when it was first made.
I would actually consider the bonus a race such as ogre, troll and iksar get to be more benefical then being a hybrid. A warrior/druid hybrid sounds good in pen and paper but more times than not will get shit on by most melee unless you are in south karana with bag full of arrows

I'd vote for removing hybrid penalties, racials should stay the same imo. But yeah my dwarf paladin would be very pleased with no hybrid penalty.

I agree with the original post. Ideally the classes and races should be balanced so that no exp penalties or bonuses are needed. And if they are not, exp penalties are a really stupid way to solve the problem. I understand that P99 aims to provide a classic experience, and that's fine. But I think that in a competitive environment such as a PvP server, we should try to balance things out, even if it's at the expense of the classic experience.

the only thing that didn't make sense when they gave hybrids a penalty is not making the ranger any good at all, all the other hybrids own face therefore they got the penalty. but rangers... wtf happned?
and the race penalties are awesome and i love that old shit, newer games would never do something like that because to much qqqqqqq

If you want to remove the hybrid xp penalty just give all other melees (besides monks) a few additional skills / abilites.
