Game Mechanics: Iksar Guards Attacking When Casting Cannibalize

I was sitting at the Lake of Ill Omen zone line for Cabilis buffing my dog and out of nowhere I was attacked by Crusader Swype. I am an Iksar Shaman and my faction with him was Indifferent. The only spell I cast before he attacked me was Cannibalize.

Luckily I was able to outrun them, but I am pretty sure this is not how things are supposed to work. I zoned back and conned him and he was Indifferent, did not attack.
