Default New player here

Hi all, I really like the look of this server, I played eq from 1999 until just before the 3rd expansion came out on Innoruuk, looks like there is a sizable community here. I'm rubbish with computers and only have a new macbook pro so I have some questions. I have looked at the eqmac thread but I'm not sure if its viable so here are my questions (sorry if in the wrong thread).

Will this run on a mac?

Exactly what do I need to do to run in on a mac? Does it actually work? Can a non computer person get it to work?

I have to buy retail eq titanium right?

Otherwise I guess I will have to buy a new PC, but in that case I was thinking of trying out TOR.

Are there people leveling to group with 1-50? I just joined eqmac but its impossible to level to 65 unless you want to solo slowly forever.

I'm sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere, it takes me long enough to work out what to play let alone get it to work and find people to play with

All the best

Cat

"Hi all, I really like the look of this server, I played eq from 1999 until just before the 3rd expansion came out on Innoruuk, looks like there is a sizable community here." - welcome to the server, i know you will enjoy it here!

"I have to buy retail eq titanium right?" - you dont need to buy it, download it for free, you dont need an account so to speak.

"Otherwise I guess I will have to buy a new PC, but in that case I was thinking of trying out TOR." - I run EQ on a $100 laptop thats 10 years old 1.6ghz 500mb ram junko, it runs perfectly fine.

"Are there people leveling to group with 1-50? I just joined eqmac but its impossible to level to 65 unless you want to solo slowly forever." - the community is wonderful here, plenty of groups to level up especially primetime, my advice is get in a guild of people thats around your level and level together, there are some slow days, but for the most part a pretty immersive experience.

"I'm sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere, it takes me long enough to work out what to play let alone get it to work and find people to play with" - we all have been there, i hope everything works out for you!

edit: forgot we had multi-quote... deal with it. =P

wow thanks for the response, I am sold! I figure it would be easier to get a cheap laptop to play rather than mess around with mac stuff. Does it need to have a dedicated graphics card? or can you suggest a cheap one from www.amazon.co.uk? Also where can I download eq titanium from or whatever I need to play? Many thanks!

Yeah, if this works. I don't own a Mac, so I have no idea.

Yep, follow the directions in that thread and you should be good to go. I copied from an existing installation, but it looks like doing a new install through Wine is pretty straightforward. PM me if you get stuck, or just post in this thread or that one.

I'm up to step 5, and I dont have EqEmu so I'm downloading one form somewhere (not sure if its the right thing but its 1.27 GB everquest.zip . Hopefully this is the right thing, I suppose I must unzip it before copying it into drive_c . Will find out in 1 hour!

Must say I'm really excited about playing this, I literally will buy a new PC tomorrow if I cant get it to work on the mac. Never thought there would be this experience again. A populated old eq world. I remember all the spawns and loot, from LGUK , kedge keep was a favourite of mine.
