Default Remove the __BLUEbar (not classic)

I think they added the blue bar so that people would not be as likely to contemplate suicide while leveling from 50 - 60.

It took me several months to get to 50, and almost as long to get from 50 -60! As someone mentioned, just finding an exp mob or camp was a real challenge before Kunark.

When I was leveling there was no blue bar either, so the experience from 50 - 60 seemed incredibly slow. I think they added the blue bar so that people would not be as likely to contemplate suicide while leveling from 50 - 60.

I remember almost pressing my eyeball against the monitor to see if I had gained a pixel of yellow exp...

It was definitely about the journey back then, but the destination was desirable too. I felt a great sense of relief when I finally hit 60, and for the next couple of years, until Suclin, there was no more worry about grinding.

Instead we could play alts casually, camp gear, and raid when people were online. It was nice.

I think the levelling speed and difficulty is what really appeals to me.

In today's game everyone is at the level cap, regardless of skill, in an insanely fast period of time. What should be a great accomplishment is quickly turned into a non-event.

In EQ if you were max level it was actually really impressive. I remember seeing people maxed out with incredible gear and just thinking 'wow...this guy is wicked, I hope I can be that good one day and have gear like that'

My friend Roseann was pretty awesome, I remember how much great twink gear he had. I couldn't believe it, it was so impressive at the time.

Nothing impresses me in MMO's anymore. I know that with minimal effort anyone can be good. Death is meaningless - no xp loss, no corpse runs, no chance of losing gear. Thoroughly detailed maps are at-hand making exploration pointless. Quests don't need to be read, just skim and click. Grouping is unnecessary. Travel is instant. Risk vs. reward has gone completely out the window.

I miss EQ!!!

Reaching level 60 is an impressive feat? Interesting. I just reached level 24 due to my very impressive croc killing skills. You wouldn't believe how good I've gotten at casting 2 spells and browsing the internet while I crush something with a hammer until it dies. It was quite difficult to get the hang of at first but I think I got it now. For the first 5 years I played EQ I couldn't understand why my warrior did very poor damage and couldn't hold aggro. Then one day someone told to turn on auto attack. It's just so complicated sometimes.

The first time I played a wizard, I solo'd to level 5 outside Freeport stabbing things with my dagger. I thought it was a stupid class. I never knew that you had to scribe spells let alone buy them. When I figured that out... it trivialized the content.

By this point, we all see the blue bar even if, like we used to do, you put a teensy little sliver of masking tape over it.

And yes, yes I did.

I was the 2nd enchanter to hit 60 on quellious. Before the epic got solved. VoG!

No PL'ing either. All grind. That...... I have no idea what that was, to be honest. Seriously. What the fuck was all that? Anyone?
