Default Question about Mages

Hi everyone,

I recently started mage and just hit lvl 8 last night. I have a question on how mages solo at later lvls. Not whether they can or how well. I just want to know the fighting style. I read on the wiki that at later levels a mage soloing just turns into chain casting pets. So, lets say 40+. How do mages go about soloing? What tactics do they use.

PS i have experience with Necros and chanters. neither of which chain cast pets. If thats all mages do it sounds very boring and id rather not spend my time lvling a mage.

Thanks for all the info in advance!

That is correct - most mages chain summon pets.

Basically the way it works is:
1) Engage mob with fire pet.
2) Start casting new pet when you feel you have enough time to summon one before yours dies.
3) Hit "pet go away" just before your pet is summoned.
4) Run around till pet casts DS on itself (Gonaner begins to radiate).
5) Sit and med while you wait to rinse and repeat.

To be fair to mages though - most classes aren't exactly stimulating to solo on, they just have a slightly more varied strategy and can take adds better.

Soloing sounds boring. May as well play a single player game.

Couldn't agree more - I would say this strat is neither more or less boring than any other class leading me to ask: why on earth would you want to solo???

Basically it for mages. Necros probably the best all around pet class. Enchanters are loads of fun but do need a lot of attention and aren't as powerful early on.

For the first 20-30 levels, you'll be healing your fire pet, pretty much. Using mana to nuke is very dangerous due to pet aggro being broken.

As for the following technique:
Quote:
1) Engage mob with fire pet.
2) Start casting new pet when you feel you have enough time to summon one before yours dies.
3) Hit "pet go away" just before your pet is summoned.
4) Run around till pet casts DS on itself (Gonaner begins to radiate).
5) Sit and med while you wait to rinse and repeat.
I would just send the pet in at step 4, and once it has got aggro, do quick back off / pet attack combos until it casts the dmg shield (if you leave it attacking, it won't cast the DS).

If you want to play hard ball, you can hit in between mob hits. Takes some good hit box and timing skills, but with a good weapon, it can add up.

Only nuke to kill. That is: if you know you can tank it and finish it.

Last advice, try to get some high level people nice enough to help you do your torch of Alna (and send them to Cazic Thule crocs for it, not Najena).

Yes, this is my first Massive Multi Player Game

PS I don't spend more than 10 minutes LFG on an average day.
