I think a Druid would be a great starter Character..at higher levels you can make plat by doing ports..they are useful in groups and can solo well...

Freeport is a great option to start out in or Gfay..

He speaks the truth lol. You don't really NEEED to start there but that is the place pretty much everyone goes to sell and buy stuff.
