I may be a tad bit older then some of you guys, most of the anime genre I can't follow/doesn't appeal to me. Though growing up I was a huge fan of the Patlabor and Evangelion series, Macross/robotech and Gundam. Just about anything involving big robots fighting.

The pokemon/dragonballz stuff I don't like.

Recently was prodded into watching the Beserk series with tortured protagonist Guts. Thought it was okay, though I hear the manga is better.

Appleseed was still one of the best I've seen.

I hated the NGE ending but i did enjoy some of the older gundam series, especially Zeta and the 08th ms team.

NGE had a crap ending; they made two movies trying to explain away that shit.

Great Animes: Claymore, Hellsing, Witch Hunter Robin, Monster, FMA Brotherhood, Hikaru no Go

I think what sold me on the NGE series was 3 or 4 episodes into it, Shinji had one of his blackout moments, and his robot became self aware and absolutely went nutso on one of the bad guys (I think they were called angels). The end scene before the credits was blood and guts absolutely raining off of traffic lights and buildings in one of those 'Shit just got real' moments. The fight scenes were legit.

Gundam was legit, I don't remember the actual name or series that got me into it but I think it was a mid 80's one called Mobile Gundam Suit or something like that? I loved the big battles between hundreds of'em.

Sorry but for a long time, nothing beat the original Robotech. Not even Gundam when it was first released. Guyver was freakin' crazy awesome too.

Watched GitS (SAC) and it was interesting, but the movie (first movie) was the best.
