Overpopulation is a myth. You should look into Thomas Malthus to see where this started. It is however a great justification for many corporations and governments to craft policies that make you pay for the privilege of being alive or to impose more restrictions.

Artificial scarcity is something many industries use as a means to drive up prices and profit (diamonds, oil, etc) We probably throw away enough food in America to feed the rest of the world.

You should disregard Earth's maximum capacity as the threshold at which we're 'overpopulated', and recognize how much better off we would be with 500 million people on Earth, instead of 7 billion.
