Default Just found this place and....

Got some questions. First about me:

Played original EQ and the first few expansions. Wasn't very good in the raiding scene mostly because I couldn't commit the time. Loved the game, put time in when I could, loved situations like in the frenzy room on an enchanter and CC'ing, especially when the puller came back with 5+ too many Frogs. Loved grouping, though my original character (a druid) wasn't a desired class, I rolled an enchanter and then found it much easier to get some group action.

Now about the rest.

I've been playing UO on a free shard. The experience has been fun but the community has just become garbage. I found this place last night via a google search and started reading the forums, and there seems to be a lot of talk about how great things were here 3+ years ago, or about people being banned for trivial reasons. I'm already nervous about investing a lot of time in a character only to get banned because I accidentally trained a group in Unrest (which I'm capable of doing, I can be pretty terrible at times).

I then read the rules here and it seems like things are pretty strict, a bit overboard in some places but I also appreciate what they've attempted to capture here. My question is this: Would a gamer with my background who likely won't get into a raiding scene get much out of playing here? I'm dying to recapture the early experience again of being a noob in Qeynos, advancing to Blackburrow, kiting scarecrows and ultimately running from Hill Giants.

I likely just made this post a TLDR type of thing, but I'd love some unbiased opinions and feel free to tell me if I don't appear to be cut out to make it here. I perhaps should have just avoided reading the negativity on the forums but I'm trying to find out if its just a small amount of unhappy players or if this place really should be passed over (though this seems to be the best offering for the 'classic' experience out there).

You have nothing to worry about ban wise unless you try to RMT or hack / cheat. Training can be disciplined but only if its intentional and even then its probably a temporary one at most.

The server has a nice community and is really what you make it. There was one questionable GM in the past but she is long gone and things have been quite enjoyable in my time here.

The community is the best part about the server and the nostalgia will flow out of every orifice you have.

its really not strict here. most disputes are settled on a per-situation basis. most of what you have probably heard were people complaining about getting banned for buying into the HUGE RMT racket that recently was settled.

from what i have read, only about 30% of the players even contribute to the forum community.. and that includes reddit and other places as well.

there are some great people here, and its considered one of the best EMU servers for a reason.

Meh, you have to work really hard to get banned. Hell, someone threatened to kill me and nothing happened to them, so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Don't read into the negative forum posts. The in-game community as a whole is extremely helpful and friendly. And if you do need to ask a legitimate question, you will *usually* get legitimate and informative responses on here. Or some times dick poop porn. It's the internet, after all.

Don't buy plat from websites, don't use SEQ or MQ2, don't request an exemption for your "little brother" and use it to 2 box. Follow those rules and you will be just fine. An accidental train isn't going to get you permabanned.

BTW you sound like you will do just fine, anyone who is this concerned about a free game before they even start playing it is 100% classic EQ material, i'll wager that your immersion levels will be 90%+

To be honest, I never expected an emu server to be as good as what P99 is. To be honest with the GM's and the population, p99 feels more like a Live game than an emu.
You should be fine here.
