Default Advertising

I was browsing reddit this morning and I came across something I thought I'd never see before. It was a sponsered Ad for a private WOW Emulation server.

Before I'd think this would be stupid idea to actually advertise project1999 due to Sony but with the recent Daybreaks agreement it might be a possiblity.

You can buy self serve ads on reddit pretty cheap and have them targetted to specific gaming subreddits.

Just a thought.

Along those same lines. There is something called the Midwest Gaming Classic ( no not the college event/tourney ). I have a direct contact with one of the organizers/promoters. I was in the process of the beginning stages of planning how I would execute this. Maybe a booth and big screen with Twitch.tv live feed from the convention hall.

Primary goal: to show that EQ is still alive. They showcase old classic gaming: ranging from Arcade/pinball, old console games and early PC gaming.

With that said. I wasn't prepared to approach anyone yet. I was thinking I would need your/staff blessings??? It's just an idea that I had, that is beginning to snowball.

Event Info, as this has already happened last month, I obviously would be planning for the next one.

I would 100% reach out to papa Rogean before you do anything. P99 might have a "non compete" clause that disallows advertising.

those banners are probably bought by European for-profit servers that sell epix for $40 a pop in a game that's already "Welfare Epix: the game"

no real point funneling money into advertising if you're not going to see any return from it, players already do a fair job of it themselves

I've seen them for years, but those emus actually have cash shops and shit so whatever legal conditions that allow them to do that likely don't exist here for P99.

You really think advertisement will be successful for this server? What are you expecting, some godsend that will send thousands of players excited to play here? Not is that unrealistic, but given once they get a taste of this community, or reach end game, most of them will leave.

The game is though already advertised quite a bit from word of mouth. In all my mmo career since the launch of p99, with hardcore raiders or casuals, whenever Everquest was brought up, and usually was because people would get frustrated with current game designs and have a warped memory of EQ being hard, they bring up p99.

Don't get me wrong, I love p99, but obviously in my own opinion, I think advertisement just wouldn't be worth it. WoW is always a game that has appealed to a substantially higher population than EQ could ever hope to be at, usually competing with several other similar WoW servers. The advertisement there makes a little more sense to me, especially because of the appeal towards casual play.
