Default "Resetting" Quest NPCs Doesn't Work

Last night I went to MQ some Thrug Plate Armor to someone when they accidentally turned in the gems before I turned in the Corroded Plate piece. After doing a quick Google search, I found an old thread that claimed:

"Of course, quest table did reset if NPC was killed and respawned."

A good Samaritan quickly agreed to kill the Quest NPC for us to "reset" the NPC. After respawn, we completed two other Thurg Plate MQs with the NPC, and the MQee went to go find some more gems. After a couple hours, the MQee had found the gems and we went to go do the turn in. Upon handing in the Corroded Plate piece FIRST, I immediately received the Thurg SK Plate Armor. The MQee had not turned in the gems. After petitioning, I was reminded that GMs do not support MQs, so now my druid is the proud owner of Thurg SK Gloves! Please learn from our mistakes [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

TL;DR:

1.) Killing quest NPCs does NOT reset their "Quest Table."
2.) Completing OTHER quests with the NPC does NOT reset it's Quest Table.
3.) Completing the initial quest WILL reset the Quest Table.
4.) A server reset will reset the NPC's Quest Table.

This is very true and a good thing to highlight, it's not classic, I think it's an outstanding bug.

Known issue for a long time, see bug forums. Basically need a quake or reset, best to just never MQ.

Thanks for the link, Rygar! I wish I had read that sooner.

In my 7 years on p99, I had never known this and neither did the MQee and 3 other people I talked to (who have all been playing for 2+ years). After some searching I only found one thread entitled "wolf caller's bracer" where this bug(?) is mentioned. Maybe I am not searching for the right keywords, but I figured starting this thread might prevent someone else from making the same mistake we did.

It fucks up the MQ for anyone wanting to do jboots. Presumably, someone will hand in the ring and gold, intending for the MQ recipient to hand in the rapier, but because the ring and/or gold are already on Hadden's MQ inventory, the first person will receive the boots before the second person can hand in the rapier.
