Game Mechanics: Karana plague event messages still in game?

I'm seeing messages about my skin itching and feeling uncomfortable while fighting in North Karana. Are these supposed to be left in game after the event ends?

To clarify, only the weather effects have cleared so this is a transitional phase. All of the effects from the plague won’t fully be over until the November 2001 patch.
