- NPC and PC corpses can now be /considered to find out how long until
they decay, and PC corpses additionally tell you how long you have to
resurrect them

I thought maybe this was just the /con command, but that corpses could still be right-clicked. However, doing some research (thanks again Dolalin for the site), I not only confirmed OP's find, but I also found that resurrection timers are too long (until Velious ... and for 2-5 level characters):

Further proof and level 2-5 rezes:

Quote:
Now that the game will display corpse rez
and decay timers if you /con a corpse
, I was
able to finally settle the issue of exactly
how long player corpses of different levels last...

The manual claims (for decay times): 30 minutes if
the corpse is level 1-5, or 24 hours online/7 days offline.

As is often the case, the manual is wrong. Here
are the results of my actual tests:

Level 1 PC: 30 minutes to rez, 30 minutes to decay.
Level 2 PC: 2 hours to rez, 2 hours to decay.
Level 3 PC: 2 hours to rez, 2 hours to decay.
Level 4 PC: 2 hours to rez, 2 hours to decay.
Level 5 PC: 3 hours to rez, 7 days to decay.
Above level 5: Same as 5 (3h/7d).

So the manual was right only for level 1, and wrong
for levels 2-5.

The easy rule of thumb is: Decay is 30 minutes for
level 1, 2 hours for 2-4, 7 days for 5 and above.
Rez timer is a flat 3 hours, or until the corpse decays,
whichever comes first.

(Yes, it's possible that they altered the decay times
for level 2-5 corpses in this recent patch, as long
as they were fiddling with the decay/rez display, and
changing high-level corpse decay times to be a flat
7 days instead of a mix of 24h/7d, but the 2 hour
figure fits well with my prior tests and experiences
for low-level corpses.)
(there's also some stuff about duel corpses at that link ... I'd recommend checking the whole post out)

Velious res timer changes

(NOTE: These changes have been hiding in the patch notes forever, and can also be found on our wiki at https://wiki.project1999.com/Patch_Notes#Resurrection).

Quote:
*Resurrection*

Previously, players had to be resurrected within two hours after death in
order to receive any experience back as part of the resurrection. Due to
the increased size and difficulty associated with Kunark zones, we've
raised this limit from two hours to three. This should assist players and
make it easier for them to obtain an experience-returning resurrection
within the time limit.

Damnit - it's even in my logs (looks like right-clicking to me):

[Sun Nov 11 00:48:48 2001] You tell your party, 'lol I said "hehehe" and got killed?'
[Sun Nov 11 00:48:53 2001] You are too far away to loot that corpse.
[Sun Nov 11 00:48:53 2001] It is futile to consider the dead...

[Sun Nov 11 00:48:54 2001] It is futile to consider the dead...
[Sun Nov 11 00:48:55 2001] You receive 55 platinum, 4 gold, 7 silver from the corpse.
[Sun Nov 11 00:49:00 2001] You are encumbered!
[Sun Nov 11 00:49:02 2001] You are no longer encumbered.

It's been a long time, but I believe this is one of those out-of-era things which has been known from P99's earliest days, but left in so as to reduce petition rate and staff workload, similar to item links. I recall previous discussion about it, at least, although I can't remember exactly when.

I would imagine/hope that perspectives have changed since the project's earliest days, and something that might have been "too classic" before might be considered now.

While I can still see the rationale for keeping item links, I don't see how (on a server where everyone has no timer on their corpse) this would really hurt the staff. They might get a few extra petitions on server launch, but I really think the player base would adjust to real, classic EverQuest pretty quickly, and related petitions would drop off.

This was classic, but I remember characters below level 5 would always respawn with 5 food / drink and a newbie weapon as a counter balance to the quickrot corpses... right? Was that something added in later or a false memory?
