Default Defensive Disc broken? (Red)

Using defensive disc in PoG tonight was getting hit for max on Treah Greenroot with defensive activated. When disc dropped still got hit the same amount.

Just reporting it!

Thx,

Sworen

Did you try and activate Defensive while you were silenced?

Treah Greenroot has a very high base damage with a very low DI*20.

Working as intended.

What's Rogan post mean in English? Defensive doesn't work on 1 mob by design? What's DI*20 mean? Ambiguous reply doesn't help future bug posters

From my understanding, I don't play a warrior class and understand the specific nuances of def v. evasive, so if any of this is incorrect someone can chime in.

DB - Damage Bonus

DI - Damage Interval

Mob swing = DB + (x*DI) (x is an integer between 1 and 20 inclusive)* *(Conflict between the Steel Warrior thread and Sak's guide on the wiki, one has 0-20, other has 1-20) Either one works for the basic concept.

Basically if the mob has a high DB, then every connected hit has the bonus added to it, whether the base hit is 1 or 1000.

If the mob has a low DI say 10 for example, then the hits before the DB is added can range from 1*10 = 10 to 10*20 = 200. If the mob has a high DB (say 200), when added to the example DI range, the hits can range from 210 to 400 in the appropriate multiples.

Defensive halves the DI value, so half of an already low max value DI is negligible, since the DB value is added to what ever DI value is rolled then halved and goes through the Defensive disc.

Evasive vs Defensive
These are your bread and butter, and the big reason Warriors trump other classes for endgame tanking. A Warrior with 4000HP and one of these disciplines will outtank a hybrid with 5000HP . . . easily.
Mobs hit for DamageBonus+DamageInterval*Rand(0,20). Evasive causes them to miss more, while defensive reduces their damage interval. What this means is that if mobs have a high DI but low DB, defensive is better, while if they have a high DB but low DI, evasive is better. There is an entire thread devoted to which discipline to use when, but as a general rule of thumb I suggest using defensive for mobs that hit for over 400 max.
